I LOVE This Man! I was too young to appreciate him when he first was huge but I've always been aware of Cat Stevens. My first introduction to him was in the early eighties when our music teacher in school used to have us sing "Moonshadow" in class.
So I was delighted to find that I really love Cat Stevens after sampling more of his stuff. And there's some parallels to Prince's career as well if you look. He became a stadium filling act in the early 70's, started experimenting with his sound after selling a gazillion albums alienating many of his fans while still remaining very popular, if not as radio friendly.
Became burned out mid-career while searching for "more" until finally one day converting to another religion and leaving his musical career behind. Of course Prince didn't do that last thing in quite the same way but he definitely started shaving away his audience after "Purple Rain", I feel purposely.
So here I am on the verge of buying my Greatest Hit's collection of Cat Stevens. What are your impressions of him?
"Morning Has Broken"
"Lady D'Arbanville"
"Father and Son"

One of my favorite writers
I absolutely love his lyrics! Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
