The Rick James website is a disgrace. You all should see the kind of pointless crap they post under "news." Nothing about any new music or that documentary that has been in the can since 2007. They even got rid of the message board, because of spam posts. Why don't they just take it down.
Just go to the site and click the news tab and read that bullshit. They have got be kidding. Does the estate support this? | |

I never signed up for the new site but I was a member of the old site. The best thing about a fan site is the forums. Without the forums, the only thing left is the music and the videos which most fans already have. Fans are alway interested on the latest news on an artist but there's never going to be much latest news about a deceased artist unless an album of unreleased material gets released or a movie about their life is being made. Talk of a movie sparks interest but when nothing ever happens in getting the movie accomplished, people lose interest.
Even on the old site, the forums were becoming a bore. All they had was a Rick James forum and there's only so much you can talk about one artist until you've talked about every single thing there is to talk about them. The reason the org has been successful is because it has other forums besides just the Prince forum. There's forums for other artists (although this particular forum has become dull lately since most of the cool orgers have left or stay in other forums now) and there's General Discussion and Politics and Religion. Even with the other forums, the Rick James site wouldn't be as successful as the org because Rick didn't have near the diversity of fans that Prince does, but it still would have been much better than it was. But it would never work over there because they frowned if you even brought up another artist's name and if you brought Prince's name up, all hell would break loose. All hell breaking loose in a forum makes it interesting sometimes because everyone sitting around singing "Kumbaya" is boring as hell, but they didn't even want his name spoken over there. It was almost like someone had spoken a racial slur or something. With everything over there being "all Rick James, all the time", I started noticing that there were a lot more Rick James "fams" over there than objective people.
