I have this album, but I've never understood why 98% of the lead vocals on the other songs are by Dennis.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Man Rick was a bad Mf'er.

I was introduced to the music of the Temptations thur my parents(as a young kid)but after i heard this jam, i actively sought out their whole back catalogue. Pairing the Temptations(the old) with Rick James(the new)was brilliant.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.

Everyone in the Tempts were always calling some other Motown artist their kin. Wasn't always true. lol It's debatable whether or not Melvin Franklin and Rick James were really uncle and nephew or even that Melvin Franklin and David Ruffin were cousins of any sort. lol I know Jackie Wilson and Levi Stubbs were real-life cousins though. nod

^^I remember when I was growing up, some people would call others "kinfolk", whether they were related or not. I guess it's a southern thing.

Technically you see a lot of that in the South. Families in the Midwest and West Coast usually have Southern ties and would say it too. Since most of the known Tempts are from the South, it's no surprise they would do that.

Others would say "cuz" (cousin). I heard a lot of that in the neighborhood and at school. It was usually older people who would say "kinfolk" and younger ones that would say "cuz".

Folks over 30 are starting to say "kinfolk". I do say "cuz" though.

I wonder when will we ever get a remastered 'Throwin' Down' set? A 2-CD Deluxe Edition, similiar to what they did with 'Street Songs', would be nice.

Yeah, shame on Hip-O that we still don't have the full Rick James catalogue remastered by now!

I've never been REAL big on remasters (I prefer my original vinyl usually)...but even I gotta admit, that "Street Songs Deluxe Edition" was killer.

It WOULD be cool if the rest of his catalog got similar treatment. No shortage of material in the can, for sure.

It certainly was nod it was sheer genuis to include one of the Long Beach concerts as the second disc! That show is explosive! If one of the 'Throwin Down' shows was recorded, they should release that on a deluxe edition of the album, too.
