Yeah I believe it's the BTM thing. I don't think they did another documentary where they freely talked about it. I don't think anyway.

Oh yeah got hardcore beef lol

It's interesting to note Tommy Shaw is about as clean cut as you can get, and he ended up in a band with one of the craziest, most politically incorrect mofos around Ted Nugent.

And there band was all ballads & countryesque songs.. i mean i liked the band but... neutral

And he co-wrote Shut Up & Dance with Aerosmith.

Nowaday's he's trying to pass off as if he is a hardcore metalhead & that styx where ''metall'' and songs like Lady & Babe where just phases lol

HOE PLEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZE

I know right? He was just as much of a pop head as Dennis was... it could be argued Dennis actually had a harder sound than he did. lol I remember watching their story going "wow, Tommy really struggled..." then when he left and talked about his Damn Yankees tenure, I almost went "dude what?" lol

Then he should have named the band something better. Grim Styx, Iron Styx, Killer Styx, MetalStyx, Styx Nuggent, RAT-N-Styx Twisted Styx, Steel Styx, WhiteStyx, Styxthrax, Styx of Doom.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Their notes on "Lady"...

WHAT?! eek Especially Tommy Shaw's... jeez louise. doh!

Their Behind the Music docu was fascinating as to why Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw couldn't come to terms with musical direction. Reminds me of all those '70s rock acts who did the arena thing and occasionally softer pop rock and then went directly into the latter genre in the '80s and, in the case of Styx, progressive and electronic rock.

And there's still friction.

Styx is one of my favorites, again they get the shit title of "progressive" cause in the early days before Shaw, they did these longer "solo" type songs this was when they released their first 3-4 albums on the Wooden Nickel label, LADY was a bomb, and they were about to get dumped from A&M records when a radio station went back to LADY though an old song at that point (2years) and played it every hour till it was a hit. So then they got the soft rock title, though the songs like "loreli" and "suite madame blue" where anything but "soft rock" just because Dennis took them into that category with Lady and Babe alot of their hits were harder edge, would never call them metal i agree but def not a ballad band, like say Journey became. The irony of STYX is that the tensions with Shaw and DeYoung, are weird, Dennis interviewed in 2010 says that they would have reformed in 1988, Tommy wanted too, but Dennis had a solo record out and then when Dennis was ready, Tommy was doing Damn Yankees, ironically having a huge hit with a ....ballad.

I think the issues within that band especially with Dennis and Tommy are not in the material at all, its in the issue of touring the band, lets face it, STYX hasnt been off the road in a real long time, Tommy and JY and Todd Sucherman and Lawrence Gowan, have been pretty non stop for a decade at least, i can say i have seen all styx lineups and i got to give this lineup props which is a much stronger unit than before, that being said i love dennis I think vocally STYX of JY Tommy and Dennis, that Harmony of those 3 rival the harmony of Queen, i have never heard higher harmonies. ANd tommy shaw as a musician never gets any props, dude can play. I love old Styx and love this lineup which has now been in place for 13 years, and their drummer, Todd Sucherman is the best drummer i have ever seen in my life.

Thing is though, people say the same thing about Tommy Shaw not being there, when they came back in 1990-91 and had the hit "Show me the way" Tommy was gone at that point, and they werent the same, dont get me wrong i love dennis and that lineup of Tommy Dennis and JY was the core but Tommy wasnt even an original, but the main success of STYX came when he entered, though it was the combo that made it happen. As Dennis said in 2010, Tommy Quit after 1984, they would have made more music, but he did a solo album and then he did and they moved on. Ironically if you go to Styx's official site run by the band, look at thier timeline history and see something interesting about it.....Dennis is never mentioned as a member

That's interesting... Never knew that about the group... That's one thing I love about the Org--I am learning so much about groups I loved as a child, teen, young adult--that I never knew. I still love the classic line-up of Styx as you mentioned... If they come around here with that line-up, I'll go see 'em. wink

Yeah i dont know if that original lineup will ever get together again, Dennis is getting up there, and though he does shows here and there, he doesnt tour for the most part, and that i feel was what made him leave in 1999 after the "Brave New WOrld" album, he didnt want to go on another tour again.

Dennis developed a light sensitivity from a flu that he had back then he does shows but the light causes his face to heat up and have symptoms of the flu However in the BTM special it looked as though JY thought the illness was BS cause the doctors couldn't pinpoint it

As much as I love them I have never seen them live. Without Dennis its not Styx imo...I can't imagine ANYone else singing Come Sail Away.

Same with Journey...no point in seeing them without the guy that put them on the map.

I never knew they ever classified themselves as metal...seriously? That is one word I would NEVER associate with Styx, Def Leppard, Van Halen, or any of the hard rockers.

BTW, Ted Nugent SUCKS lol
