I need for Wheelchair Jimmy to have a few seats!

This kid is insane! He is obsessed with her and it's damn near sickening! I love Phyllis Hyman but I know how to keep my admiration for her in check and it's boundaries that you have to have. He's all over the place and by the way... since when is Drake an executive producer of anything? I need for him to sit his ass down somewhere and keep that right hand in check!

Aaliyah's Immediate Family Not Supporting Posthumous Project

August 7, 2012

The brother of late singer Aaliyah has announced via Facebook that "there is no official [Aaliyah] album being released and supported by the Haughton family." The statement from Rashad Haughton "regarding upcoming album release rumors" comes just days after the release of "Enough Said," a posthumous single from Aaliyah that features a rap from Drake and production by his longtime producer Noah "40" Shebib.

If the Aaliyah song is part of a larger project, then it's possible that Aaliyah's immediate family isn't on the same page with her uncle Barry Hankerson and cousin Jomo Hankerson. Their Blackground Records logo appears on the artwork for "Enough Said," along with Drake's October's Very Own logo.

Perhaps reacting to rumors that Drake would executive produce an Aaliyah project, a message on her Facebook wall asks Aaliyah lovers to weigh in. "Do you want an AALIYAH album? If so, who should executive produce it or be featured on it? The Haughton Family would love to hear what her FANS have to say?" the note says.

Another Facebook update asks, "Biopic... yes or no?" to which Rashad responds, "No female I've seen can play my sister."

I never trusted Barry Hankerson much as far as him being a record executive because he's done some shady things. Not mentioning any of them of course because this is supposed to focus on Drake. But I'm glad that some members of the family are not pleased with this. I knew Rashad would be against having someone just do whatever they want with his sister's music.

It was Hankerson who first introduced his niece Aaliyah to R. Kelly, whom he was managing at the time. I wonder if he has a heavy heart when he looks back over the years contemplating that fateful first meeting between the two of them.

I'll download it for free somewhere because I refuse to give him a cent for this. Aaliyah doesn't really need the money or fame where she is. Currency and status aren't needed in the realm of the angels and the Almighty. I miss her soo much. cry

Aaliyah's Family Not Involved With New Drake-Led Album Project

Brother: 'There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family'

Aaliyah's family say they're not involved with – or supportive of – a new posthumous album that Drake is working on, The Guardian reports. "There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family," said Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah's brother.

Drake on Sunday posted the new song "Enough Said" on his blog. The collaboration features a previously unreleased vocal track from Aaliyah and a rap verse from Drake, over a spare beat produced by frequent Drake collaborator Noah "40" Shebib. Aaliyah's family was unimpressed.

"Do you want an AALIYAH album?" they asked Monday on a Facebook page for the singer, who died in a plane crash in August 2001. "If so, who should executive produce it or be featured on it? The Haughton Family would love to hear what her FANS have to say?"

Aaliyah was best known for her work with Timbaland and Missy Elliott, who wrote and produced most of her 1996 album One in a Million. Drake recently contacted Timbaland after the producer last week told New York hip-hop station Power 105 that it "would just not be right" if he and Elliott weren't part of the project. "The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record," said Timbaland, who is now reportedly producing a pair of songs for the album, with Shebib handling the rest.

It appears the Haughton family's lack of support is mostly symbolic for now: Aaliyah's uncle and manager, Barry Hankerson, likely owns the rights to her unreleased recordings. His Blackground Records released "Enough Said" with Drake's label, October's Very Own.

Your bolded part is what I believe most figured. If Barry Hankerson owns the rights to her unreleased songs, there isn't much contractually the family can do. However, for Drake to first commit and continue to do this project without the family's blessing is in very poor taste.

Drake's Aaliyah fixation is beyond creepy.

I bet if she were here she wouldn't even take him seriously and think he was too 'soft', just like I do loool.

And I kinda adore Aaliyah's brother because he reps for and protects her memory so much like a brother should. I love his comment, "No female I've seen can play my sister".

Hear, hear. ♥

Ahh drippy, drizzy, sappy Drake - bless his cotton socks.

If you had an international platform to give props to your idol (s) I’m sure many of you (including me) would come across as borderline obsessive.

I don’t know why Timberland is so upset? If Aaliyah flopped liked Ginuwine if she was still alive – he would also leave her in the cold too – it’s a fickle industry

Decent track - but why all the profanity on the verses? - I had to do so much editing before I played it on radio last night.

You're taking the whole delusional apologist thing to new heights.

Come back with that argument after any of us have tattooed a pop idol onto our body...wrote an entire essay about how they're waiting for us up in heaven...then record a song using outtakes of said artist...apparently without the blessing/consent of their family members.

Let's be real here - he is abnormally preoccupied with Aaliyah. To be honest I think you're just trying to give him a free pass because he's a star, when you know full well that if he were Joe Schmo walking around with Aaliyah stuff tattooed on him even though he'd never met her, and saying the same stuff he is now, you'd probably say he should be an in-patient in a facility somewhere.

I don't like this disbelief It's fine for him to be a fan, but he's fucking obsessed and I don't want him involved with making another album of her tracks. Just let her rest in peace and enjoy what she released when she was alive shrug I dislike Drake even more now, if that's possible for me lol
