Like so many of his songs, I had assumed Richard wrote it. I was shocked when I read he didn't. But it seems he's more of a lyricist? Dorothy LaBostrie, the co-writer of "Tutti Frutti" who cleaned the homosexual comedy content in Richard's original, claimed Richard didn't write the lyrics in the rewritten song (though I'm guessing Richard got credit for the title and composing the music). He also didn't write "Good Golly, Miss Molly" and Richard even admitted swagger jacking Ike Turner for the intro of that song, taking it from "Rocket 88". I thought it was fascinating stuff to read. I mean he's still an original but, well, yeah... | |
