Joss Stone's New Album, The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 [img:$uid]http://i47.tinypic.com/2j2j5mw.jpg[/img:$uid]
June 4, 2012
Joss Stone is returning to her roots with The Soul Sessions Volume 2, a sequel to her 2003 breakthrough album that will also see her reuniting with original label S-Curve Records.
Due out July 31 through a partnership with Stone's own Stone'd Records, Volume 2 follows the same model as its predecessor by delving into deep cuts from the '60s and '70s (The Honey Cone's "While You're Out Looking For Sugar," Sylvia's "Pillow Talk," The Dells' "The Love We Had") as well as a recent alt-rock hit (Broken Bells' "The High Road.")
The 2012 sessions, recorded in April in Nashville, features a seasoned lineup of musicians including Ernie Isley, Delbert McClinton, Muscle Shoals' Swamper Clayton Ivey and soul singer Betty Wright reprising backup vocal duties.
Since ending her contract with EMI in 2009 with Colour Me Free, she self-released the Dave Stewart-produced LP1 last summer and has recorded at least two more additional albums' worth of material for projects tentatively titled LP2 and Homemade Jam.

What happened to Superheavy? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Superheavy was a one off project anyways.
But Soul Sessions 2?

I can't fantom why she has not achieved the same level of success as, say, Adele. I thought the Raphael Saadiq-produced album a few years back would firmly establish her as a great singer.

Success is a fluke of the right time, the right place, the right situation= the right zeitgeist. "Climb in my fur."

Honestly because i dont think she appeals across the board, she is very outspoken which right off the bat is a no no in this industry. Adele is almost never speaking at all, and her songs are straight forward, Joss is not very straight forward so she appeals to some not to others, the demographic she has honestly i think is older than Adeles and Joss's target audience is pretty small compared to what Adele appeals too.I think Joss has done fine, considering she was on a label off a label back on a label etc...she has gotten alot "legends" to want to work with her, so thats pretty impressive. She hasn't achieved success because she's not very good and she doesn't sound authentic. Old Girl tries to hard. Who can we sue re false advertising re Joss and Soul being mentioned in the same sentence? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Seriously i dont think that has anything to do with it, honestly to me she is more authentic than alot that have done "soul" just for the hell of it. Alicia Keys is sold zillions and pretty much most on the org (not me) feel that she is a fake and tries way too hard. think is that Joss is Joss, i mean soul producers found her she didnt seek them out lets not forget that, alot of artists SEEK the soul, the soul producers noticed her and pushed her that way. I bought her first 3 albums and like all of them. I think Joss has a nice voice, but I'm not really into the Melissa Etheridge style rock she's been doing recently. So I'm happy about this new album coming out. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I agree. She should be a superstar by now.

Well if this were the 80's or 70's and some of the 90's i'd say Superstars in Music still existed but that term, is over. I know some will say Beyonce or Katy Perry or even britney but to me they are media driven stars not music superstars but any measure "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

We dont have music superstars today just media whores... I agree

its very sad how music has taken the "back seat" in peoples lives like that.

I've heard the complaints about her oversinging, but I still like her. Homegirl sounds better than a lot of the others out there.

and she actually sings live too. She does over do it sometimes, but I still like her anyday over some of the young female vocalist out there in the last couple of yearS... Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!
