Marilyn Manson Likes the Idea of Lady Gaga, Just Not Her Music

Paws up! Claws out! Cat gith alert. Marilyn Manson is a visual artist, so he can appreciate Lady Gaga's look, but he isn't into her music or the fact that she is constantly changing her image. The shock rocker said, "I like the general idea of what she's about. I have a hard time liking her music. It's not my style of music that I like, and I like a lot of music that is in that vein. I like Kylie Minogue sometimes - I like a lot of unusual stuff, I like Justin Timberlake over Lady Gaga, just musically." So yes to Kylie and JT but no to Gaga? Right, we got it.

He continued to explain his stance on Gaga, saying, "I get the whole idea of what she's doing and I appreciate that. I don't think it's a bad thing, I think it's a good thing. At the same time, I don't try to have a different look every single moment because I think it's more ephemeral, it becomes less permanent. People like to identify with one single thing. I'm not one to knock her, she's obviously succeeded in what she's doing. It's not exactly the type of thing that I find myself listening to, but that doesn't mean I don't like her."

Gaga's got far more talent than both Timberlake abd Minogue combined, I do respect his opinion though. At least he's not calling her talentless like a lot do. Big fan of Gaga BTW.

NOO WAAYYYY. She's a decent singer, a kick-ass piano player, and a fairly OK dancer, but that's pretty much it. Dressing up like people from Cirque Du Soleil does not make her the better artist. I don't know about Kylie Minogue but I personally think Manson is right with saying that JT is more talented musically. His music is more clever and eclectic than Gaga's. Her songs are too loud, obnoxious and repetitive. I only care for a few of her balads like Speechless or You and I (I wish she would do more of that) but the rest are not really worth anything. Just simple repackaged mainstream pop. I did, though, infact appreciate her performance with Elton John. But the way I see it, she's always trying to top herself by doing stupid and blantly controversial things. There's no thought to it. JT's FutureSex / LoveSounds is a clear example of being nasty and a bit controversial, but doing it in style and wit. Overall in my opion, I much prefer JT.

Honestly I agree with Manson, so I'm like, "...And?".

Gaga's actual music, is shit. She's got the talent but she squanders it making dumb shit. As far as pop music goes, Minogue and Timberlake's stuff is way more entertaining.

Which isn't to say that I'm pro JT at this point. I'm not, and frankly I think he should be kicked in the nuts for his comments about having been in N'Sync. A lot of those songs weren't that bad as far as fun pop music goes, and if it weren't for that group no one would know or care who the fuck he is.

She's a talented singer:

I never really liked this. While I do give much props to her vocals in this tune, I always thought there was too much of her in this song and not enough Tony. The album is called "Duets II", not "A Bunch of Artists Loudly Sing While Tony Bennet Is Lightly Featured in the Backround". Not trying to bash her, but I think that the Amy Winehouse track was a much better blend between her and Tony (an actual duet).

What comments did he make on N'Sync. I always thought that group was OK, but like you said, JT's music was more entertaining, and in my opinion, more musically interesting.

Timberflake and Minogue over Gaga? wow. I'm not the biggest Gaga fan though I like some of her songs but she definitely has more talent than either of those 2. I can't believe how respected Timberflake is these days. His "I'm cooler than all of you " act and whiny singing voice never caught on with me.

I think you're reaching with this comparison.

They're approaches I'll venture to say are completely different.

Gaga's show tune roots seep through her performance. The reason I brought up this performance is that she nailed it. JT and Kylie Minogue could not pull this off. You really have to know how to sing to pull this song off.

I dont understand the Kylie knocking. She is very talanted and has had a career into her 3rd decade.

Justin is talanted too.

So is GAGA.

Now whether Gaga is more talanted than JT or Kylie is really pointless to discuss all three are at different points in their careers.

In my opinion as much as I love Gaga she has not really done anything original with her look...I mean she has based her style on Madonna which Kylie had done for years.

Kylie had a successful battle with cancer and came back.

Justin is now focusing on his movie career.

I had a discussion about Gaga with some friends a few months back and I said that although Gaga is very talanted she is not really that original and she also tries to change her style every time she goes out in public, it was cool a few times but now the shock factor has gone. Where as other artists like say Madonna and Prince changed their styles with every album or 2. We had Purple Rain Prince, then Slave Prince etc....with Madonna we had Like a Prayer Madonna and Erotica Madonna....so each style is defined to a particular moment in their careers....with gaga i feel as though we have ok Monday is meat dress gaga, tuesday is big egg gaga...she changes her style too often.

Its kinda like she is more focused on trying to shock her audience and make controversy than focusing on music. And that is sad in my opinion because gaga is very talanted.

What would impress me is if for her next album gaga would just be plain and not have a gimmick associated with her next album, just her and a piano or her being normal.

That would show everyone I rekon.

So in a way I do agree with Manson.

Madonna was more old school Andy Warhol in her approach. Every album had a grand theme and the look was consistent with the theme of the project. Same with Prince. You had psychedelic Prince during "Around the World In A Day", "French" Prince during "Under the Cherry Moon", "LoveSexy" Prince during "LoveSexy".

Gaga changes looks like underwear, when she's even wearing any.

Gaga has a great voice but in general if I'm feeling like listening to dance of dance alt. I prefer Kylie's music.

I have to agree with you.

Lady Gaga during The Fame era had a consistent look. The Fame Monster also had sort of a consistent look, but once Born This Way rolled around, her look changed every time she walked out the house. That seems to be an issue with her now because like Manson said, fans like to identify with something and Gaga does make it rather difficult.
