Stick McGhee is probably best known in footnotes as Atlantic Records' first hit artist. This song was recorded twice, however. Stick had first recorded the song in 1947 under a different label (Decca). After his Decca contract ended in 1949, Atlantic Records, which was not yet established, picked him up and had Stick re-record the song in an uptempo rocker. The uptempo version became the hit and Atlantic's first hit success. Here's the two versions. See if you can tell the difference:
