Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream: Water Preview

27 July 2012

Link

Miguel doesn't appear to be done with "art chic." Earlier this year, the singer, songwriter, and producer behind the promising neo-soul of late-2010 debut album All I Want Is You made ambitiously good on that promise with a string of three free EPs. Now, the Los Angeles-born artist has revealed he will be releasing sophomore album Kaleidoscope Dreams in three parts, starting with two new digital EPs, all via Bystorm/RCA Records.

The first release, the three-song Kaleidoscope Dream: Water Preview EP (available on iTunes July 31), includes catchy standout "Adorn."

The second release, another three-song set and titled Kaleidoscope Dream: Air Preview, is set for September 11. The final full-length release, simply called Kaleidoscope Dream, will bring together the two digital EPs alongside five new songs and is due out in digital and physical form on October 2.

The album title holds a clue the album's inspiration. "I believe dreams represent the purest form of fantasy we unleash through our subconscious," Miguel says in a statement issued by the label. "They represent the truest freedom we can experience. Totally unrepressed and totally creative."

Producers on Kaleidoscope Dream include Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Nas, Adele), Pop & Oak (Kanye West, Big Sean), Jerry Wonda (the Fugees, Wyclef Jean), and more.

I'm a big Miguel fan. I dig his style. He's breathing some new life into r&b. I like these 3 songs you posted, with the 2nd and 3rd being my favorites.

I can dig this. I'll probably just buy the first ep, then wait for the Oct.11th, to hear the rest of it. Hearing three songs ahead of time, will hold me over.

Apparently he really loves Morris Day because he swagger-jacked his performance style with the jacket changing and constant primping/hair smoothing lol. All he needs is a mirror. lol

But all jokes aside, I love his production style. His voice leaves a bit to be desired, but he's a great writer and producer. Once he grows into himself a little more, with the right marketing and grooming, he could be a huge star.

Miguel leaps into action on the black-and-white cover forKaleidoscope Dream: The Air Preview.

The three-song micro EP will be available on September 11 via iTunes. Last month, the smooth operator released Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview, which included the first single “Adorn.”

I like where this kid is headed. The music video is dope and

he's kinda interesting. And the only dudes on the scene that I

think are interesting is Van Hunt and my own brother...

That haircut does not flatter his pineapple shaped head, but I'm

just being a douche in this regard...

EDIT:

Uh oh...I may have spoken too soon. The cuts provided above

ain't as good as "Adorn." I'll give him the benefit of the doubt

once I listen to the entire album in a sitting. If it's dope, I'll buy

it. If it ain't dope, I'll be happy with my (not illegal but kinda is)

downloads...

Does anybode else hear the Marvin Gaye "Sexual Healing" influence?

Or am I crazy (so very likely):

EDIT: I'm talking about "Adorn" here.

The sequenced drum beats are reminiscence of "Sexual Healing". I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. Even the multi-tracking of his vocals reminds me of Marvin's complete mastery of the technique.

I agree. Even the soft spoken vocal phrasing underneath the verses sound

similar to both tracks. I bet the chordal progressions have similarity as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who peeped that.
