Toni Braxton Possible Second New Judge On A.I.

"American Idol" might be making history by having not one, but two Black judges in its upcoming season.

The most recent casting rumor has singer and reality star Toni Braxton taking the place of exiting judge Steven Tyler. If Toni joins the lineup alongside newly announced judge Mariah Carey, this will be the first time ever that there have been two Black women judging as regulars on the series.

An insider who works for Simon Cowell claims producers were less than discreet when discussing the newest addition to the judging panel and plans to add Toni were overheard. The news has yet to be confirmed.

“When I overheard the producers during a candid conversation regarding having two Black, female judges for the first in the history of the show, I almost jumped out of my skin,” the insider said in an email. "To add to what was already internal pandemonium, I overheard them say that Toni Braxton was replacing Steven Tyler.”

Toni has hit the “Idol” stage before, having performed on the show before with season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, and now fans may get to see how she is when the tables are turned.

Neither Fox, nor Toni, have commented on the rumors yet.

Well it works for both because they will have new product coming out so CASH IN, the show itself its meaningless and a joke, its all about the judges getting back into the spotlight again, worked big time for JLO

I'm a Toni fan too and she could definitely use the steady paycheck but it's hard to see Mariah willing to share the stage with another diva in her age group lol Does anyone know if these 2 know each other or get along? It would be cool to see it happen though.

oh good, because Ellen, that songwriter chick nobody ever heard of, JLo and Steven Tyler and the immovable blob Randy Jackson haven't bored the shit out of us enough in the last several years.

let's get Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton, the to blandest and milquetoast "personalities" to have ever been called celebrities to have a go at it.

I started to believe this until I got to the line about Simon Cowell. Simon doesn't have a hand in Idol anymore so I doubt Toni is in the mix. I can't wait to hear new music from her.

He'd probably do a show similar in the U.K if he ever decided to do one. People still buy his albums over there lol

hmmm this would be a good career move for Toni, since she is forever having financial problems. She would get a healthy, steady paycheck and lots of media exposure that could help her record sales.

However....is Toni really the best they could do? How about finding someone that is truly exciting and provocative? Aretha, perhaps? She would bring the necessary drama and fireworks that could really ignite this show.

The would have to pay Aretha way too much and they already blew the wad on Mariah. This could be good for Toni as she could pay her bills and take care of her son and stop posing nude and doing ridiculous, embarrassing reality shows.

I don't know about George Micheal but I think it would be better if they get another male judge who is a singer and someone from a differnt genre than Mimi and Toni.

George is essentially an R&B/pop artist, not really different than Toni and Mariah. Sure he's got a couple rock songs, but he's always been more pop and R&B
