Sometimes, I think these things just circulate on the internet because it's just something to talk about, rather than that anyone's crying themselves to sleep over it. One blogger/poster passes it along saying, "I'm not personally that bothered about this, but I heard that other people are really angry about it." But probably the previous link in the chain said the same thing. Then the media picks up on it because they see everyone's talking about it on the internet, and that must mean that lots of people are up in arms about it.

By the time you trace it back, it's probably just one straight-outta-college blogger filling up her word count with a (not uninteresting) thought that she happened to be mulling over one day when the radio was on, and decided to put out there to see what people think. But the internet rumour mill makes it all seem more massive and consequential than it is.
