the show has been on a downward slide for years...she wont be able to save it....sorry but true...
I sorta agree with you here. I've been in love with Mariah since nearly the very beginning of her career , and I've been a huge fan of American Idol since around the second season. Having said that, Idol is definitely on a downward trajectory and has been ever since around season seven, when it was rumored that Simon Cowell wanted out of the show, but it really has gone downhill since season nine, when they added Ellen Degeneres as a judge. But what has really hurt Idol is the glut of other reality competition shows like The X Factor, The Voice, America's Got Talent, The Sing Off, Duets, Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, and all of the other knockoffs which have come and gone on network TV and cable. I watched the first couple of episodes of The X Factor but bailed on it since it looked like a weak imitation of Idol and AGT to me. The Voice was slightly better, and the rapport between the judges seems to be genuine, but they lost me once they moved beyond the audition rounds. Worse yet, these shows are not producing the huge pop stars they have created in the past, like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Katharine McPhee.
As much as I love Mariah, I'm more curious to see who she is paired with on the judges panel. Is she going to be working with Randy Jackson, Jimmy Iovine, or someone like wiil.i.am or a country star like Martina McBride or Miranda Lambert? I think that's even more cruical to the possible future success (or failure) of this show.
