What Do You Think It Is That Makes Musicians Go Cray Cray

Really....

This is inspired by the recent claims that Megadeth singer Dave mustain saying Obama planed the recent shooting at the Batman premiere. While i love Megadeth.. there one of my favorite bands & i love his political lyrics.

The years of substance, drug & every other kind of abuse & recently supposedly finding ''GOD'' had lent him to crazy zone.

Same can be said for Lauryn, i adore her.. but people claiming she has not gone off the deep end a bit are fooling themselves. She also had found ''GOD'' and the words of a crazy preacher and stopped paying taxes and paying her musicians confused

Ted Nugent has a wide eyed few of how America is perfect & people outside of it are all trespassers eek

And then some.. go shaving there heads in public but eh that's a different thing lol

What do you think it is that makes some artist's just go off the deep end? to have wide eyed views and thought's?

Is it the pressure of fame? hidden demons(Ex. racism, abuse, drugs etc.)

Personally i noticed a trend of people who find GOD or find a new religion usually going a little left field, hell the man this site is for is prove of that :lol

What is "normal"?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

There is no normal in my eyes, but there is ignorance.

And saying something like anyone outside of the U.S are backstabers or trespasers is ignorant.

And common sense... like if someone plays on your record you pay them, you don't say GOD will reward you in the future lol That imo should be common sense that people are not going to take that as ''payment''

"Artists" are no different than anyone else.

(There are some that believe otherwise for some reason)
That segment of humanity has its crackpots and loonies just like the rest of society.

What has changed is in the past musicians/celebrities had their transgressions reported by the press.
Today, anyone has the means to prove they're a nutjob right along with the celebs.

It's called a Twitter/FB/forum account.

Interesting points tA and so true.

And I cop to being one of those who idealized celebrities in my younger days. I think the time that I woke up was when the lead singer of Tower of Power murdered someone.

I was also going to say that for those who may not have been so cray cray before they acheived fame, the money may have abberated their sense of reality. When you can buy as many yesmen/yeswomen as you want you insulate yourself in your own little world and lose touch and/or become a major asshole.

True.

Now money don't matter.
You can just Friend/Follow yourself a personal cadre of yes men/women and become a minor ass-hole!

Since you lead off with Mustaine and Nugent, I think you mean, why are more rockers politically conservative these days?

I think they probably always were that way but didn't talk about it because they felt out of step with the rock audience, which used to be mostly young people, which meant overwhelmingly politically liberal in the 60s through 80s.

But the audience has gotten older, thus more conservative, and thus the rockin' conservatives no longer feel so alone.

Paul Ryan is a Rage Against the Machine fan and there is absolutely 100% no irony in that fact. Some of us paying attention might go "RAGE AGAINST YOURSELF DUDE!!" But he just likes their music because it has a good beat and you can dance to it.

Most of em are effing crazy anyway to want to go into entertainment lol so the crazy gene is already there lol I think the pressure from record companies, the public, etc exacerbates the potential for "crazy."

Nothing is truer than this, most get into it to seek approval and run away from unresolved issues.

I dunno... I WAS a huge Megadeth fan until recently. Mustaine was hardly a conservative before he "found God" and supposedly got sober. People can believe what they want about politics..that's fair... But Mustaine has become a real nutcase over the last few years and I can't explain it. I think the OP is correct...guy has gone Cray Cray...

He made more sense when he was a drug addict obsessing over getting kicked out of Metallica.

a) in some cases, mental illness (specially if it's "in the family", Wilsons, Jacksons, etc)

b) in many cases, drugs

c) the extreme pressure of being judged 24/7...

d) the pressure of making a living as an artist (will this be liked by the fans, what will the critics say, will it get radioairplay, etc)

e) the illusion of power/superiority (aka, arrogance) when some musicians get "superstar" status, the same can be said about many politicians/executives...
