New Singer - Elle Varner Hey Guys,
I picked up this cd last week and I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I only skip one song on it. I like the very first song "I Only Want To Give It To You" immediately, cuz of the catchy beat and she reminds me of Solange. Refillwas released next and that was it for me....I LOVE THIS SONG. Her raspy voice and vibe is fresh and I'm diggin the cd ALOT! Because she is a bit quirky when ya look at clips from YouTube, I get a good feeling that she is grounded and not fake. I think she is absolutely beautiful and I hope she has great success with this album...she writes and plays guitar I think. She reminds me of a younger Macy Gray but with a bit more vocal range. She had a mix-tape/cd or whatever these young folk do with downloads I was unaware of. I think it was for free as well. I download no music, I still buy cd's I have mentioned her before on here. A lot of people hate her "refill" song "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." | |

I know, I get the same reaction.....don't give a DAMN.....I always tend to gravitate to her vocal style. The video is on steady rotation on VH1 Soul, it's funny and the guy is a complete buster....there are plenty of new artist that get the straight hate on here, usually I stay quiet cuz I don't see the point. For instance Jessie J and absolute favorite here...NOT.....I just love to pieces, however I don't want to see her stretching, and lately she has been doing exactly that. Her acoustic versions of her songs cannot be fucked with, the girl can sing, in my opinion. Timmy had some GREAT music on his new music threads and I was soooo appreciative of it. I Only Want to Give It to You is okay. I heard it a few times and didn't know it was her. I knew of her first by hearing Refill on the radio. I'm sorry but i just plain don't like it. I've listened to the samples of her album before and just didn't get a feel for it. I may check out some Youtube clips but Refill is an absolute no.

I am LOVING her. The fact that she's not a star already proves the music industry is broken. It's like Mary J on better meds!
Seriously, though, it's a great pop album. It's weird that Refill was a single - it is a little Mariah-with-fiddles and not the best hook. The rest of the album is much better, and even a bit Princey at moments. |
