How y'all feeling about that new Nas?

I just copped it today. Haven't listened yet. Anyone else buy it?

It's a pretty good effort, but it feels like a mixtape really. It is one of the grower records. I liked Distant Relatives better.

I haven't listened to it myself yet. It has been fairly highly rated by critics, but the general opinion from people that I've spoken to is that of slight dissatisfaction and disinterest.

I agree. His hip-hop reviews always score incredibly low.

The song with Rick Ross neutral fucking mess

Summer on Smash is one of the worst songs Nas has ever done confused , Daughters is a good track! love that one. Cherry Wine is a pretty smooth track with Amy Winehouse cool

But this album is very mixed.. i loved Nas last 2 album a lot, and i dug a lot of Hip Hop Is Dead.

But the production, beats & everything on the album just left me.... idk with nothing. I just really felt nothing while listening to half these songs shrug

Maybe i should give it another spin

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I agree with this. This album really doesn't have a thematic flow like 2008's Untitled or 2010's Distant Relative, which was a bit of a disappointment. It feels all over the place like Hip Hop Is Dead. I loved the production on many of the tracksm although some songs were just "there." "Summer On Smash" was horrid. That was just the aural equivalent of vomit. That Mary J. Blige joint was slick. "Daughters" is one of Nas' career highlights. Just an overall slick production on that one.

Agree silver! it is a mess like hiphhop is dead.

Accidental Murder is just... it seems so forced. And i highly dislike Rick nasty Floss... i could stand him on MBDTWF but his rap has little feel to the song.

The first few songs are alright on 2nd listen, Reach Out is eh, Summer On Smash is still confused yeah that one is not going on the ipod lol

Reach Out to me is not bad...

But it's just typical MJB lol Like it sounds like one of those ''i'm stronger, we are stronger let's all get stronger and reach out & love & come through so & so''

Agreed. I despise Ross' flow and whole style and his performance on "Accidental Murder" was annoying. I could tolerate him on "Devil in a New Dress" from MBDTF, but other than that... sad

My opinion might be biased but this album is what hiphop needed, the king returning and telling them new (old too) rappers how to do it. This is REAL hiphop, yes there are two songs that are bad but it's a great album. I have no doubt this will be the best hiphop album of the year. Distant relatives can't be compared to life is good because it's not the same type of album, because this album is not trying to appeal to the reggae fans nor is it a collab album with Damian marley (I love that album tho) this is about Nas showing that he never left and that's he's gonna stay and keep the game alive. Nas said he wanted the album to be like Marvin gayes; here my dear.

Also, is the album cover with him holding the green dress supposed to be any reference to Kelis? Just asking.

Yes and I love him even more now, he's a real man - no disrespectful lyrics towards kelis but rather respecting her for what she meant for him and why it didn't work out. You def need to get it. biggrin

This album wasn't compared to Distant Relatives. I just enjoyed DR alittle more. But LIG is a grower. His albums tend to grow on you. As far as best hip-hop release of the year...I don't know about that personally. But it is one of the best I've heard this year.

Alright then, I understand - DR is a reggae/hiphop album and Life Is Good is a pure rap/hiphop album. It's about preference. Nas is one of the few artists I can buy knowing that I'll get a great album. I havent heard a good rap album this year (the releases later this year won't be that good either I doubt) and hopefully life is good will win Nas his first Grammy.

But you know, this review alone shows that Nas hasn't gotten his props. All these Jigga fanboys need to stand and recognize. This man clearly hasn't listened to Nas' full discography. I think his releases post-Nastradamus shows his growth as both an artist and lyricist. There is no question that Nas is one of the greatest to ever grace the mic and declare his impact. And you can't argue with him. Jay on the other hand....is bipolar.

Most definitly! Well Said! Im so tired of all this Jay Z bullshit. Recently I got into a convo about rap with some peeps my age and they had the nerve to say Jay Z and Eminem better than NAS eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek eek Thats why I hate getting into convos with people my age because they dont know what the hell their talking about in relation to music. confused

Its really REALLY sad that Nas will never get his credit as a MC.

Jay Z is not bi polar his not a real MC and he made that perfectly clear over a decade ago. His always been a mainstream rapper nothing more or less and thats fine. I just hate how his so overrated and how he thinks his the best rapper alive. WTF eek Just because white people know who you are doesnt mean your the best rapper alive eek But I pretty much agree with everything you said razz lol

Jay is definitely overrated. No question about that. But I'll give him some props for The Blueprint, Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, and American Gangster. I like Jay's flow, but he has alot of corny lines that are just.... lol

I won't even bother watching this guy's review. I figured he'll do what most professional and amatuer critics tend to do, which is (compare NaS to Jay-Z). It really is a disservice to both emcees. To me, it's about as tired as the old Michael vs. Prince comparison mad
