I haven't found many people that agree with me but I thought that the two new songs on the 1998 Greatest Hits album ("Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved") were pretty good. Maybe I like them simply because the finally started sounding like Motley Crue again?

uh

Enslaved sounds like the typical overproduced/dumb 90's radio-rock

Bitter Pill sounds like an Offspring B-Side...with rawer guitars

not excited

on the other hand, Hell on High Heels was the first Crüe song that I liked since the Feelgood days...

nod

as I've said, the right sound/image was there...

but the material was pretty weak, and replacing Neil with Corabi was as bad as replacing Connery with Lazenby, or even worse...

It's not necessarily a bad album but it doesn't sound much like Motley Crue. It's kind of like Kiss' Music from "The Elder," not bad but not what fans want to hear.

You may not like the songs but at least they sound like the work of a band. With Generation Swine they were trying much too hard to sound current with the "industrial" touches on the album. Sure, they don't sound like Motley Crue circa 1986 but I think they sound like how they should have sounded in the nineties. Most fans really dug "Primal Scream" and that does not sound like a typical Motley Crue song either. They updated their sound a bit but it was still recognisable as them, unlike Motley Crue and Generation Swine.

well, I agree with you there, the only thing I liked (like) about GS was "Afraid", very underrated song...BP and Enslaved are better than the bulk of GS, that' true, but of course, New Tattoo was the real return to form, maybe because the pro-rap/industrial whore of the group was already gone when it was recorded (Tommy Lee) rolleyes confused

I may be misremembering but I believe that according to The Dirt Generation Swine was largely Tommy and producer Scott Humphrey's album. Mick was pushed aside a bit and much of the album was recorded with John Corabi, Vince being brought in near the end to add his vocals. So it was definitely a bit of a mess. After the reception that Motley Crue received you would have thought that they would have come back with a strong rock album. I remember there being some excitement that Vince was back in the band but as soon as people heard the album they were extremely disappointed.

It kind of pisses me off that some fans dismiss New Tattoo as not being a "real" Motley Crue album due to the absence of Tommy. This was around the time of Methods of Mayhem and anything he would have brought to the album would have only made it worse. I just don't get him. He's a decent enough drummer but his non Crue stuff has been embarrassingly bad.

for me, Mick Mars is what Motley Crue is about, followed by Sixx's songwriting skills; Neil is just the celebrated lead-singer (I'm not tryin'g to downplay his role, but let's face it, he ain't Jagger as far as songwriting goes) and Lee is just the clown of the group, a good drummer more known for his antics, Pamela Anderson and/or his dreadful solo projects, fuck him, lol

That shit sounded like fucking simple plan & all american rejects stuff. I was a bit.. taken back when Tommy Lee's solo stuff was very whiny frat boy sounding music hmm

And i agree with Joe, Afraid is a good song & i kind of dig beauty to. The rest...... neutral

Speaking of Tommy Lee, I wonder if he is truly into making new music with MC? He was very vocal a few years ago about how he had moved on and was into Hip Hop now. He also can't stand Vince Neil. What made him change his mind about everything? Is it just for the money?

He did make Saint Of Los Angeles with MC, admittedly it was very forgettable but still the Crue sound. cool
