ABBA is in there too, and I don't think they're rock. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not exactly "rock", but rock-influenced. Jesse Johnson played guitar on "Black Cat" and Michael worked with many rock guitar players: Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Orianthi, and that's Steve Stevens (Billy Idol's guitarist/co-song writer) in the "Dirty Diana" video and playing on the song itself.

As far as 50's-era rock guitar, besides Chuck Berry, there was Bo Diddley
These clips are from the 60s, but the songs were recorded in the 50's:

You know, I've heard this song so many times in '60s themed movies and tv shows but never knew who performed it. I'll definitely look up their catalog. Thanks for posting the clip Hey...

Huh? Huh? HUH?!? Great suggestions everyone! Now I've got some new stuff to check out. What's Prince got to do with rock? Um, he plays rock songs. Sure, he's better known for pop & funk, but I'm not a purist. I want to hear some rock sometimes, and he's an option. Let's see ... I'm Yours, Bambi, Free, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, America, Electric Chair, Endorphine Machine, Dolphin, Zannalee, Chaos & Disorder, Last December, Dreamer ... Need I go on? I've thought about this for a long time, and the three best Black rock groups are:
1. Black Sabbath 2. Black Crowes 3. Black Keys

Prince crushes all 3 of these acts in hi sleep.
