Overall who has the better catalogue of music in your opinion?

Atlantic Starr 4 sure. I'm not going to limit it to just the Sharon Bryant era because I liked a lot of the songs they did with Barbara Weathers as well as some of the songs after Barbara left.

Some of my favs after Barbara left:

I like DeBarge, but I think only one of their albums is truly brilliant: 1983's Love Me In A Special Way music that album is essential. The other ones...not so much.

I enjoyed Atlantic Star's music & even saw them in concert. They were good, but I think I have more of a nostalgic connection to Debarge---so I'll go with Debarge, I think.

DeBarge easily. Atlantic Starr has a few great cuts, but DeBarge just had a balance between sentimental ballads and dance-pop-soul-funk jams that were undeniable. Besides, Atlantic Starr never made albums on the level of these two:

Atlantic Starr fans....what would you say is their best album?

I was just listening to their 1982 album Brilliance and I think it just might be my favorite.

My vote goes to DeBarge. There are more to music catalogs beside the slow jams.

If that's the one with Love Me Down, Let's Get Closer, and Love Moves then

for sure.

I forgot about Circles from this album too. Shame on me. Brilliance is hands

down their best album. I'm gonna have to get this one. I have As The Band

Turns. The only songs i listen too from it are Freak A Ristic, Cool Calm Collected,

and Silver Shadow which is the best Barbara Weathers era song by Atlantic Starr imo.

My favorite Atlantic Starr album is Radiant. I don't see how anyone could pick any of DeBarge's albums over Atlantic Starr's Radiant, Brilliance or Yours Forever. Those albums are perfection through and through.

Radiant

1. When Love Calls
2. Think About That
3. Mystery Girl
4. Under Pressure
5. Does It Matter
6. Send For Me
7. Am I Dreaming

8. My Turn Now

Brilliance

1. Love Me Down
2. Sexy Dancer
3. Love Moves
4. Your Love Finally Ran Out
5. Circles
6. Let’S Get Closer
7. Perfect Love

8. You’Re The One

Yours Forever

  1. "Yours Forever"
  2. "Touch A Four Leaf Clover"
  3. "More, More, More"
  4. "I Want Your Love"
  5. "Second To None"
  6. "Island Dream"
  7. "Who Could Love You Better?"
  8. "More Time For Me"
  9. "Tryin'"

Atlantic Starr, but only up through "Freak-A-Ristic" which was their last good song. When you reach the horrible "Secret Lovers" on that same album, they became absolutely horrible.

its really no comparison here:

DeBarge is a Group

Atlantic is a band the end up turing into a group so the music catalogue cant be compared.

thats like comparing EWF & Dru Hill

I chose Atlantic Starr over DeBarge as well, but wow.... "Secret Lovers" and "horrible" in the same sentence??? Never have I heard that before in my life....lol.

I think "If Youre Heart Isnt In It" is Atlantic Starr's most underrated single.

Yes there are some people here that don't like Secret Lovers including myself. I'm

not a fan of If Your Heart Isnt In It either but i could tolerate it more so than Secret

Lovers. I never liked that song. Probably 95% of the orgers here like the Sharon Bryant

era more than the Barbara Weathers era.

I despise "Secret Lovers" lol That song is so cheesy and annoying.

However,I like most of the other songs on As The Band Turns."If Your Heart Isn't In It" is a GREAT song, and "Freak-A-Ristic" has got to be their funkiest jam.

I agree that "Secret Lovers" is cheesy, but I still like it. It's not a song that I LOVE, though. I agree that "Freak-A-Ristic" is one of the hardest jams they've ever done.

I think Miss Bryant was the essence of that group IMO, when she took the exist cue, Atlantic Starr ceased sounding like "Atlantic Starr" and started sounding the rest of the mid-80s R&B groups that fronted a female singer.
