Exclusive: On Money ‘American Idol’ Is Low Balling Everyone

american-idol-logo

Steven Tyler, a inside source tells me, was low-balled out of his job at “American Idol.” “They’re low balling everyone with offers,” says the source. “With Steven, they didn’t care if he left. In his second year, they didn’t think he added anything.” So Tyler returns to Aerosmith, and he’ll be huge again. With Jennifer Lopez–my source says that “she’s ambivalent” about the offer that’s been made. Hence her comments on the “Today” show. She’s ready to walk away. “But she does love the show. It surprised her. It’s hard work, but she loves it. I think if they made her a reasonable offer, she’d consider staying.”

Randy Jackson–also got a lower than expected offer and is waiting for something from Fox that sounds better. I’m told he’s considering his options. Randy could leave “American Idol” now and do 100 things. He’s already doing 200 other things–producing, managing, working with Mariah Carey. Says my source: “Fox doesn’t realize the audience forms a relationship to the people, not the format. They love Randy and Jennifer.” And NBC’s “The Voice” is gaining on “AI.” What could “AI” do? Keep Randy and JLO, and bring back Paula Abdul. No kidding.

Well going back to Idol to judge if you're a former contestant is a downgrade. The fuck you wanna come back full time as a judge when you're supposedly "successful"? They should just cancel it.

I think everything started going down hill when they tried to add a fourth judge

Nah it was going downhill long before hand. People didn't say anything because it was the No. 1 show in America still.

I've been saying forever that show ran its course quite frankly they all have, I'm tired of shows handing people gigs go earn the shit. Granted here has been a few good singers but still earn it. As for Steven hes smart he knows when to leave plus his band is touring and that is reality and American idol is bs, Jennifer is most likely gone too.....cancel it!!!

I wasn't paying that much attention but I heard on TV this morning that Charlie Sheen is being considered as a possible A.I. judge. You have to be frickin' kidding me? Who's he gonna be sitting next to? Sarah Palin??? Please! If they are going to keep that farce of a show going, all the judges need to be singers. They should just go ahead and cancel the damn thing. I can't name a single winner since Jordan Sparks. And the only reason why I remember her is because all of the recent hoopla surrounding her upcoming film role opposite Nippy Houston.

The show would be much faster without all the blathering of the judges. Just let people sing and have the public vote. None of the judges can form an intelligent sentence, especially that halfwit Randy. They should dump them all.

And what the fuck does pitchy mean? Having pitch? I prefer the term off key myself.

Jennifer Lopez just announced ... she will NOT be returning to "American Idol" next season.JLo called in to Ryan Seacrest this morning, saying, "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do."She said, "Something has to give" ... adding, "We had an amazing run."Lopez made the announcement a day after Steven Tyler bailed from the show. And there is a strong buzz that Randy Jackson may not be coming back either, leaving Ryan Seacrest the last man standing on the show, which has lost a third of its ratings in the last year.Obviously, producers now have to make a decision that will make or break the show.

She keeps telling intimates she wants to perform and star in movies. But, seriously, how in demand is yet another 42-year-old singer-actress given the reality of showbiz?

Today, The Associated Press quoted Lopez’s spokesman as saying she is leaving Idol. (The rep is Fame Factory celebrity publicist Mark Young.) The latest media speculation about new American Idol judges for Season 12 include 2009 runner-up Adam Lambert, rapper will.i.am, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, and most recently Mariah Carey. (Lambert said: “If Idol wants to talk to me about judging, I’d be more than flattered to have that conversation.”) Katy Perry has revealed she said no to an offer.

This morning Lopez repeated to Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show almost exactly what she told The Today Show the day before: ”I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I’ve put kind of on hold.” Clearly JLo had a script to memorize, milking her “maybe-I-am-leaving” moment as yet another publicity opportunity — this time to promote her voicing role in Ice Age 4 opening today.

No problem, her too-long 15 minutes of fame will be ending soon. Despite her presence or because of it, Idol registered its lowest-rated finale ever last spring. And immediately after News Corp COO Chase Carey told Wall Street analysts that “our challenge for next year is to put some fresh energy in” American Idol after “we probably didn’t do enough this year”. In terms of changes, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly has promised “some creative tweaking” heading into next season after the show’s ratings “dropped more than anticipated” this cycle as “space got crowded”.

Just put on ANY Rhianna record. The meaning of both "pitchy" and "off-key" will become quite clear to you.

Jennifer Lopez Dumped From 'Idol' After Seeking Raise to $17M (Exclusive)

Jennifer Lopez says it was her choice to leave "American Idol" -- but the singer was actually dumped by Fox when she asked for a $2 million raise in salary to $17 million, a person familiar with the negotiations told TheWrap.

Fox also opted not to pick up Steven Tyler's option, the person said. Tyler announced his departure Thursday, saying he had decided to devote his energies to his first love, Aerosmith. Lopez said she wanted to focus on other aspects of her career and her children.

The exits -- and the possible departure of Randy Jackson, widely speculated to be considering an exit after judging on all 11 seasons of the former No. 1 show -- come as it undergoes another dramatic overhaul, just two seasons after the show was retooled by introducing Tyler and Lopez.

The insider said top Fox executives Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly want to revamp the show, and that Rice has told colleagues he wants an "Idol 2.0," of which host Ryan Seacrest would be the only essential ingredient.

A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment.

The insider said J. Lo's fee went from $12 million in her first season to $15 million in her second. When she asked for another $2 million, the network surprised her by not making a counteroffer.

"Idol" lost its top spot in the ratings to NBC's "Sunday Night Football" last season after eight years of dominance. In their two seasons, Tyler and Lopez helped prop up the show. But they could not return it to its former dominance as the sing-off market became glutted with competition, including NBC's "The Voice" and Fox's "X Factor" from ex-"Idol" judge Simon Cowell.

That glut -- which also includes ABC's "Duets" -- has created a mini gold rush for singers.

Many music stars are being considered to replace Lopez and Tyler, including Mariah Carey -- whom Cowell has long sought for "X Factor" -- Kanye West, Mary J. Blige and Lenny Kravitz.

If Jackson stays with "Idol," he has an inside track with Carey that his former "Idol" colleague lacked: Jackson is Carey's manager.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Aretha Franklin tells CNN she is interested in joining "American Idol" as a judge
  • Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced this week they are leaving the show
  • Fox declined to comment about Franklin

(CNN) -- "American Idol" lost two stars this week when judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced they would not be returning next season, but the hit Fox show could gain itself The Queen.

Aretha Franklin, an 18-time Grammy Award winner who Rolling Stone proclaimed the greatest female singer of all time, told CNN in an e-mail Saturday that she is interested in joining the show as a judge.

Franklin, 70, who wowed the Essence Music Festival crowd last week in New Orleans and is now performing in Las Vegas, says she has long been a fan of the show. Now instead of watching it with the rest of America, she's ready to play a vital role in choosing the next "American Idol."

And as the Queen of Soul would do, she's already thinking about bringing along a sidekick: songstress Patti LaBelle.

Fox declined to comment on Franklin on Saturday night.

The addition of Franklin could help Fox stop the ratings slide of "Idol," which saw it lose its spot as the top show of the year to NBC's "Sunday Night Football."

The addition of similar singing contests to primetime television has increased the competition for viewers.

Fox's "The X Factor" recently added pop star Britney Spears after booting former "Idol" judge Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. NBC's "The Voice" -- "Idol's" closest competitor -- has gained ground with judges Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton.

It pretty much looks like Mariah Carey is on the short list as a replacement for one of the judges on American Idol.

http://www.boston.com/ae/...ey_to.html

Others being considered as replacements are Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Miley Cyrus, will.i.am, Fergie, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson. Katy Perry has already announced she is not interested in becoming a replacement judge.

It also appears that Randy Jackson may be booted out of the active judging role he has been on during the entire run of Idol in favor of a mentoring role.

Now I think they could bring in some new blood on the judges panel, but they should consider Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic as a possible replacement or bring in a country music superstar as a replacement, like Trace Adkins or Dierks Bentley, as long as Mariah and someone like will.i.am are also on the panel. Or as possible dark horse candidate, Bret Michaels.
