What Is Great About Green Day?

Ok, so i recently got to PA for the production of a Green Day video... didn't get to meet the group. But even though i was excited to be doign PA for a big set i have always wondered what is so great about Green Day?

Even when people say the classic ''there old stuff is better'' line idk... there hits from the 90's to now are still overplayed and most of them just make me cringe confused

Billy Armstrong has that punky school boy vocal that just sounds so..... eh to me neutral lol

And i love political albums but i just could not get into American Idiot or 21st Century breakdown.. the lyrics to me a lot of them where cheesy and forced. And the 3 chord pop-punk crap they have been miling since 94 is kind of old to.

I'm not trying to be a hater... but what it is about Green Day that has caused them to so successful all these years? cause from where i stand they just seem like a more political version of A Simple Plan or Blink-182 shrug

In my opinion they're shit, hate most post-disco rock. Even as far as post-disco rock goes I'd put them at them bottom.

They have a couple good tunes. cool Since I don't listen to radio. I'm sure they played the stuff from American Idiot too much. Still I like some stuff, not all though.

an

I thought they were a parody band when they got big in the early 90s but I have to say I like Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

I absolutely hated them during the mid nineties when they were everywhere. I just didn't get them and thought "why would people listen to them when they could be listening to The Clash or Stiff Little Fingers?" But once I actually listened to some of their music I liked a fair bit of it. Not enough to buy the studio albums but I highly recommend this:

It is a very solid collection. It lacks material from American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but it is basically all of the Green Day that anyone needs. If you don't like at least half of it then you should just give up on Green Day as they are obviously not the band for you.

I do think that it speaks to how weak the modern era of rock music is when they were arguably one of the biggest bands on the planet circa 2004-2006. I like them ok but if that is the best rock music has to offer that makes me feel very sad.

I was never a fan until I heard the album American Idiot. IMO - it's awesome. I love the message and the entire album rocks! The live concert dvd from London blew my head off the first time I saw it. These guys have energy to spare. Would've loved to have been at that concert.

I'm not too impressed with anything before or after AI, but I love that album and dvd.

I've never been a fan... but ya know... there are certain bands that get chosen by the powers that be to be THE bands in any given genre. Green Day is one of them... I'm sure the casual Rock or music fan owns a Green Day CD or two based on name recognition and them being put into that elite status (along with Coldplay and other Critical darlings)

I don't mind them much anymore.. I don't listen to them.... but, I don't feel the urge to switch them off whenever they come on TV or the radio either.
