This thread can be about anyone with an unconventional singing voice. I'm just curious about people's tastes.

For example, I first remember seeing a UK singer named Ellie Goulding perform live on SNL last year and thought she was awful. A year later, the song she performed, "Lights" is a top 10 hit on the hot 100. I don't think the studio version you hear on the radio is anything special either. Her voice is really annoying to me, but obviously a lot of people dig her.

I guess another example would be Bob Dylan. I never liked his singing voice and thought he can't sing, but I like him as a writer.

It depends....

I'm a huge, collossal, obsessive Rush fan and Geddy Lee's voice has been derided as much as anyone... but, I like it. I always have.

There are also other people...usually within the Prog and Metal community (often high voiced tenors) like John Arch and James Labrie that I really enjoy...but, their voices truly aren't for everyone.

But all these people CAN sing...really well. And that's what appeals to me. I LOVE a unique voice if there is actual singing ability behind it. AND they sing with bands... Adam Levine wouldn't appeal to me as a solo artist, but fronting a funky rock-pop band, I think he's cool.

A weird voice, that can't really hold a tune, doesn't do it for me at all. There are some bonafide legends that fall into that category, but I won't mention them.
