War & The Hurting Albums Is it just me or do War by U2 & The Hurting by Tears For Fears go really well together?
Both albums have this cold distance sound that's very 80's but still unique even in modern times, They both have social, political & very personal lyrics(Although The Hurting has more of them VS War)
They both came out just a month apart from each other in 1983, Both bands went on to have continued success with social themed music throughout the 80's to.
I feel i can put any track from The Hurting on War & any track from War on The Hurting...
idk what do you fellow fans think?

Although I respect U2, I would never compare them to Tears for Fears...
I just looked back at that other thread about "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", because I wanted to see who started it... Why are you trying to pigeon-hole them? Just like them, and let their music stand alone.
I got into them in high school (backinthaday), and have never let them go... My friends can't understand how I can be into the things that I listen to, but still call them my favorite band. I can't explain it, they just are. I have never copared them to anyone else, just dug their sound, even through the "transformations"...

i'm not trying to pigeon-hole them bo boo. I'm simply starting a fun discussion that's all Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Oh,okay. I get that... But, being called "boo boo" isn't fun for me... ;-) I still don't think that TFF and U2 can be compared, tho. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World" | |

Lol alright i won't call u that
Only reason i have always compared the 2 is because these 2 albums to me have this unique sound... that only these 2 albums have. They have this cold, distant 80's sound that works... i mean there where released a month apart it's like a part 1 & part 2
And they both had huge hits that dealt with political/social commentary & even the album covers. War & the hurting.. War is a child standing with his arms on his head, the hurting is a child sitting down crying.
SFTBC Has the full band in it black & white as does Joshua Tree. And Seeds of Love & Achtung Baby's covers are very busy with colors.
But idk... those are some reasons i always feel the bands are somewhat similar in nature but still totally different , it still sucks TFF only have 6 albums Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Thanks!
I get what you're saying, I guess I just never saw them like that...
I liked U2 in the beginning, but got tired of them because I can't take Bono. Hate him. I think he's a pompous, self-aggrandizing, arrogant blowhard. He even stands like he's the end-all. I have no issue with U2's music, it's Bono. Ugh.
Tears for Fears is a different story. Love. Them. (I graduated high school in 1985, so the first two albums got me through some stuff. ) Yeah, the break-up between Curt & Roland was a disappointment, but I really liked "Elemental". It took me a while to get into "Raoul & the Kings of Spain". I also own their solo projects. I even bought the album they did with the two guys who later became Naked Eyes, when they became TFF: "Acting My Age". It's a ska album.
