All these band have at one point identified themselves as being a Christians band, or have Christian members.

It's not Christian music especially Zao. I mean, Funeral of God? That's some straight up godless Nietzsche stuff, right there. I used to listen to this...thank goodness I stopped. How can music be Christian though? It can have religious or inspirational themes, but its not necessarily Christian.

^Some people think that if a song doesn't talk directly about God the whole time then it's devil music which in there mind is only other thing there is, no inbetween, so it's Christian music. Crazy and sad, but true

Zao

Artist:

Album: All Else Failed
Song: Growing In Grace
Lyrics:
His love
He is King
He is with us
He is God
He is with us
He is God (Not a clue)
In refuge and strength
Ever present help in trouble
Without fear
As the nations uproar
And the kingdoms fall
He lifts
His voice melting
He is with us
He is God
He is with us
He is God
In His purpose
I will stand
I've been renewed by Him alone
We've been made by the Maker
Bought by the Buyer Broken
by the Breaker
I am His. (x2)

Artist: Extol
Album: Burial
Song: Reflections Of A Broken Soul
Lyrics:
I fooled myself again
Trusting an illusion
Of what I thought to be
Never ceasing love
I burned myself again
Leaving scars that never heal
Becoming cynical
To this thing called love

Look into my mind
Fragments of what I desired
In this state I cry
Father please won't you show me

Show me how
To stop it now
Cleanse my mind
Help me find
Love

My soul is an open wound
Filled with salt of sadness
Was this my destiny
To be left alone
I nurse my misery
Leave no room for anyone
Still I am cynical
To this thing called love

A pale reflection
Of a broken soul
Slips through these eyes
Full of tears
Emotional blackout

I cannot trust my own feelings
My sorrow eats me up inside

Learn from mistakes
See what it takes
My feelings fail
Your love remains

Artist: Blindside
Album: Silence
Song: Pitiful
Lyrics:
as I recall when my stomach turned
and I was hiding away from myself
away from you
like nothing but something was terribly wrong
and I admit that I was only waiting for the right time (right time)
right moment for you to look away
though you never did I pretended for a while
so I could walk where I don't belong

I remember every word you said
come back in time come back
and I remember I was too beaten
pitiful so pitiful

but I know as they hammered those nails
into your beautiful hands
your eyes they tried to search for mine
but I look away
now your eyes are the only thing that can save me
I'm still afraid of them piercin'
you break into my prison
just pretended for a while
my soul is sad and I walk away

I remember every word you said
come back in time come back
and I remember I was too beaten
pitiful so pitiful

pitiful
pitiful
pitiful
pitiful
so pitiful

and I remember every word you said
but this time I won't look away
and I remember every word you said
and this time I won't look away

and I remember every word you said
come back in time come back
and I remember I was so beaten
pitiful so pitiful

and I remember every word you said (pitiful)
come back in time come back (pitiful)
and I remember I was too beaten (pitiful)
pitiful so pitiful

Now What ?

Yes, when I was 15 and went through this weird phase, I liked their music, it had a rhythmic, edgy quality to it. I was Christian at the time, and I thought it was okay to listen to them because they claim to be Christian, but it made no difference because what they were talking about wasn't Christian, I mean, Praise the War Machine he's saying 666 and shit...I was surprised by it at the time, but I still listened to it because the way he said 666 was cool to me lol Christian music in my mind does not exist. There are rappers who talk about God, and are Christian, like DMX, but he's not being played on Christian radio...because they don't want to have to censor the profanity I guess, but because he's not their image of a "true believer." The Christian music scene is something I am very familiar with, until I stopped listening to it when I was 15 in favor of better sounding, more innovative music, as so-called Christian music was quickly adopting the same styles of music they once rejected. It sounds the same, but the band hardly talking about God yet labelled as a Christian band is supposed to be what I listen to? Bullshit squared, honey, listen to what you want, don't pigeon-hole yourself with this crap.

Now What ?

Are you a troll? I know this song by Blindside, I used to like it. The thing I realized quickly is that these artists talk about God in a cryptic way to make it more marketable to majority of audiences with its supposed positive message of the gospel to "save souls." You proclaim them to be Christian, and NONE of the lyrics mention Jesus, the determining factor of the Christian religion. The Zao one talks about God, but that could be any God as many religions call their god, God, or Lord.

Now what, what? Oh please, boo boo, take a seat.

Silly Rabbit, there's nothing trollish about me. I see what type of "christian" you are and i think you're full of it.

People like you give Christianity a bad name. You probably think Zao are talking about satan when they have lyrics like this:

"His love
He is King
He is with us
He is God
He is with us
He is God (Not a clue)
In refuge and strength
Ever present help in trouble".

And as far as me pigeonholing myself. You don't know anything about me, my musical tastes are VAST.

Your narrow view of what it means to be a christian is flat out dumb and immature. I feel sorry for you.

So now this topic has turned into a religion battle. Well Christianity gave itself a bad name. I grew up in a family that only listened to this Christian music crap and was incredibly Republican. Luckily I had enough sense to leave the bigoted, ignorant, hypocritical "religion". Yes, I've experienced more than hick church, it's taking me a lot of different church sects and other religions to get where I am. Hopefully you'll realize that as long as a song flat out says god, and says it a lot, and sounds religious it's automatically a Christian song. I hate Christianity and could write a "hit" Christian song.

Okay, again nothing about Jesus is being said, the lyrics don't prove that the Christian faith is being propagated in the lyrics which would be a prerequisite for this so-called Christian music. I feel sorry for you because you don't know how to express your opinion without attacking me personally and insulting my intelligence in an attempt to discredit my original viewpoint. If anything I was a very devout Christian with various likes and dislikes and didn't have a narrow view of what Christianity was, but the fact of the matter is that Christians condemn this music as the devil's music, yet they turn around and use it to win souls for Christ. I might as well listen to what I want then. Christianity has turned into one big commercial, the most commercialized religion. And I'm not even a Christian...

I hear and agree with most of what your saying. The thing i don't understand or agree with about the other persons post is them saying that those bands weren't considered christian rock, metal, or hardcore bands. The fact of the matter is they were considered that by both them and most of their fans. Heck, that band Extol were threatened with violence by some black metal bands because of their christian belief's. The other poster said that to be considered a christian you have to have a belief in Jesus and those band did. They all have lyrics speaking about God, Jesus, faith, doubt, and all the struggles that go with being human.

The point of this thread was to try to give a different prospective on what it means to be a christian musician(or band). When most people think of christian musicians they either think of bands like Newsboys or they think about Gospel singers. I was just trying to show that there's another side to it.

Reconciled us to Himself Through Christ Jesus
We will be free,
forever knowing what will become of us
Thank you for the cross
Trusting in the balance
Has tilted me toward righteousness
Lifting my spirit once again
Sinking not in my functioning Inhale,

Looking for tomorrow forgetting about today
Striving to tell them the truth
Dying, dying, dead Through prayer and sacrifice into all the earth

Okay, there you go, Zao is talking about Jesus, not to mention they talk about the funeral of God as well. I guess Jesus survived crucifixion after all. So then why do they not want to be a called a Christian band anymore? Every where I go Christians are the meanest, most unloving and ignorant people I come across. You attack me first and then post what i've been looking for you to post. I am so glad I am no longer a Christian, and more people will keep away from the church because of people like you. Buh-bye!

Child, you got issues. If you knew anything you would know that Zao are a totally different band now. ALL the original members are gone. And as far as the crap you keep spouting about 666. That album was a concept album. They were imagining what would happen if God had decided to leave the human race. They imagined that the world would turn to shit and that satan(666) would take over the earth. So honestly, you don't know what the heck your talking about.

I'm starting to question your truthfulness about your past. Some things aren't adding up. The first indication to me that something was fishy was when you called me boo boo. That's a odd term for a former rocker/christian/ person to use. Also the comment you made about DMX raised a flag. Most people who listen to Zao and Blindside aren't all that familiar with DMX. The things i mentioned plus your obsession with the Jacksons make me think your perpetuating a fraud when you say that you use to listen to rock/metal music. You seem like a person that wanted to interject their personal issues about God onto my music post because it went against some bullshit you were taught about religion. You have the problem, i don't. Im pretty secure in what i believe and don't believe about Christianity. Your not the only person that's studied the origins of any particular religion.

What pissed me off with your original post was the Gif. Instead of doing your homework you decided to start off with a 'Stop lying' gif and i thought that was bullshit.

Anyways,

I got better things to do than to argue with someone over Christianity, so im done with ya. See you on PR.
