You all are nuts, Chaka is better and this is her song, Whitney just screamin her ass off on that one, she's not good at all. Prince I will always miss and love U.

YOU don't HAVE to do a damn thing.
But if you choose to, I'm ready to go!

You're probably just trolling, but have you ever Chaka sing live? All she does is SCREAM. Whitney was not a screamer. She was a BELTER.
People like Aretha, Patti, Chaka have great voices but lack the control and dexterity that Whitney had.

I like plenty of Whitney songs, and I'm not a Chaka fan, but I love Chaka's version, and I don't like Whitney's at all.

Oh your trippin with Aretha

Now I love Whitney but Im going with the original. Chakas vocals and emotion are flawless. I also enjoy Whitneys version but I dont think its better than the original. There about the same. Whitneys version is more pop and Chakas is more funky.

Oh you disagree with me??
I'm so surprised. | |

I get the sense that aardvark and Terrib3 don't like each other.

Anybody who categorizes ARETHA FRANKLIN as a screamer has an irrelevant non existent arguement especially when Aretha is one of the main vocal styles Whitney was inspired by
Why cant we just enjoy the song? There always has to be a competition with some folks here.

still a nasty little troll, i see.
the death thread is closed, and everyone had their say about the circumstances involving whitney's death. this is a thread about whitney's cover song, not about her death, so no, no one is coming here to talk about that. they're staying on topic, as per the rules. if there were another thread about her death, fans, both "stans" and casual, would post the same things they posted back then. so how exactly have you been proven "right" about anything?
the bizarre thing i've always thought about your particular contempt is that you're posting on a celebrity site, whose participants would likely come by to post about their grief if the subject of this site ever passed away suddenly - or otherwise years from now - in just the same way. who the fuck would you be to tell them that their feelings wouldn't be real, or that they would just be 'acting out'? there is something seriously wrong with you (see, i can also read into your soul, too).

I like Whitney's version better than Chaka's. Of course, this is my opinion. Whitney's version made me FEEL it.

Whitney's version of this song is WEAK! The production is lightweight and empty....sounding like any other other early 90s dance songs.Nothing special going on in this song at all.
Chaka's original is a disco classic....with fiery vocals and sublime production by Ashford and Simpson. It is Chaka's signature song and only SHE can make it come alive.
Whitney got alot of mileage doing other peoples' songs, but on "I'm Every Woman",she bit off more than she could chew.

I actually prefer Whitney's version of this song as well. Gotta agree with Timmy: it's the new intro that sets it apart. Off the top of my head, "For the Love of You" is probably her only cover I don't prefer. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Well I guess so. Anything is going to be a bigger hit if you water it down with pop. Andy is a four letter word.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Oh, it was far from Black Box, Crystal Waters, or Robin S. Andy is a four letter word.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
I don't even know what the hell does being a hit have to do with a "vocal" performance, but hey whatever rocks their boat I guess

Thank you! There's no comparison - Whitney's is wack. Like others said, stale as the day is long & watered-down pop.

Control what? All Whitney could control in the past 10 years was on how to get crack. I heard Chaka sing live, yes she does sometimes scream, but this song is not Whitney's, and Chaka has much better music than Whitney ever had. Prince I will always miss and love U.
