Great track from the movie "Beat Street". Sounds like their "This is my Night" from Chaka's I Feel For You album.

Classic jam. The System are one of my favorite bands of all time and I have all their albums |

I truly hope it's no longer than that. I love this band so much. Also, one of my faves of all time. I hope it's more like their classic sound from the 80s and not ESP which I was not fond of at all. Way too slow and no where near funky.
What are your fave albums by them?

What are your fave albums by them? [/quote]I really loved,"Xperiment". I remember playing "Lollipops And Everything", for a friend of mine. And he bugged out, cause it hit him that the line was in, "Don't Disturb This Groove". I also liked, "The Pleasure Seekers" album. "I Don't Run From Danger", was my jam. I love all their albums, and production work(Angela Bofil,Howard Johnson,Evelyn"Champagne" King,etc.....).

Finishing touches on the System album Finishing the arrangement for “Your love is a Motha” We are going for a march 1st finish line. "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Seems like we have the same taste when it comes down the the System. My fave album is Xperiment. I actually think it's a masterpiece. Every track is brilliant from start to finish. I can't take losing you is probably my favorite track from that album and from Pleasure Seekers it's I don't run from danger. I also have the Howard Johnson album doing it my way and just recently got Let me be the one by Angela Bofill. They are so talented. I hope they make a quick and strong come back. I hope they don't try to come back with something to fit in with what's currently going on. They are musical leaders not followers.

Xperiment is probably my least favorite actually.
My favorite fluctuates between "The Pleasure Seekers" and "Rhythm & Romance"..... after that I would say "Sweat", then "Don't Disturb This Groove".
Having said that, the great stuff on "Xperiment" is REALLY good. "I Wanna Make You Feel Good" and "Promises Can Break" are just fucking fantastic. |

I love The System and always felt they should have been bigger in the 80s...it's a shame their success was so brief. "Baptize The Beat" is another nice jam

Really? Xperiment is so bloody good it hurts!
I've always wanted to get more into Rhythm and Romance but it's not quite as edgy and the same goes for Don't distrube this groove, though it has some great moments. Now Sweat is the bomb!! Great electro new wave funk.

I found that there was more filler on Xperiment than any other albums. If I made a list of play-counts of all their songs, I'd be confident in saying that at least 4 cuts from that album would be right at the bottom. I don't care much for the title track, or "Bad Girl", or "Get Jumpin"..... they are OK, but I don't care for them as much as 90% of the rest of The System's catalog.
"Rhythm & Romance", I think you have to have an appreciation for New Jack Swing as the album is very much influenced by that. There's an more complex layered level of production on "Don't Disturb This Groove" and much more prominent female backing vocals that give it a unique sound to all their other albums. Perhaps that makes them less edgy than more straightforward electrofunk like Sweat and Xperiment, but I find that these two albums contain probably their most killer pop songwriting and arrangements. I mean, listen to "Save Me" from DDTG, or "Soul To Soul" from R&R....... just pure pop songwriting bliss

can anyone explain why the System still does not have a 'Best of' compilation? Makes no sense to me.

I think you hit it right on the head. I'm not a huge fan of new jack swing. I can take it in small doses but that's about it. It also seems like at that point theye were trying to fit in as opposed to being a trend setter like they had done before with their earlier albums. I wish I could at least hear a sample of a new song they're working on for the new album.
