Marsha Ambrosius on Status of Sophomore Album

June 15, 2012

Link

British soul singer Marsha Ambrosius won fans over when she debuted with Floetry in 2002 and kept the momentum going with her debut solo album Late Nights, Early Mornings. Now, she’s ready to start talking about her upcoming second project.

Marsha spoke to us about her forthcoming album and the sound fans will hear when it drops. Ambrosius believes fans will be able to tell she’s experienced more in life during the process of making this album as opposed to her previous works.

Check out some of her comments below.

“It’s cooked. It’s a well prepared meal with gorgeous side dishes and snacks. With Late Nights and Early Mornings I was very precise in how I wanted it to be, but with this one, I don’t feel like I’m taking chances. I feel like I can be me now.”

“The first time around it was me showing and proving that I had a lane and an avenue to cover. But this album, I definitely had to live it to write it.”

”The sound and authenticity is still there. As far as a difference, you will be able to tell I experienced more this time. There is this expectancy there; I know who I’m talking to. I get to target the people I’ve met along the way.”

I hope the follow up is better because I wasn't all that impressed with Late Nights.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Didn't get the hype with Late Nights, Early Mornings. Marsha just hasn't hit me yet. Did Late Nights get any Grammy nods? Just curious...

Yeah, Best R&B Album I think. I think Marsha got two other nods. Of course she didn't win any of them.

Wow. It was probably the biggest R&B album released last year, next to Jill Scott's (which unfortunately, got no Grammy love!)

I think she may be a better songwriter than singer

Yeah, it's like close to 500,000 copies right now (the Marsha album).

It wasn't all bad news: Her song ''Far Away'' garnered the Soul Train Award for Record of the Year, which I thought was very well deserved.

Marsha has a very pretty voice and she can do alot with it. She also conveys alot of emotion when she sings well mostly speaking on her (Floetry) material. I must admit I wasnt that impressed with her solo debut. There were some nice songs but nothing beats her material with Floetry.

Shes a very talented songwriter and vocalist in my opinion.

She doesn't sing well live, that's for sure.

eek

I havent been keeping up with (solo) Marsha but when she was with Floety she could sanggg like it was nothing and conveyed so much emotion. She did alot of cool things with her voice....

The music that she is making now doesnt suit her voice. She did much better when she was doing neo soul.

But the girl can sing but her style is very different. I can see someone saying that she isnt their cup of tea but no doubt the girl is talented

I agree she just needs to figure out what direction she wants to go musically.. whether she wants to do R&B or Neo Soul. Shes very creative and talented. She just needs some time to really grow individually

Me neither. Some folks love her, but when I hear her sing, I need to take an Advil.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
