When I yelled at her I promised myself I would never discuss music in mixed company again. And it took all the willpower I had not to explain the obvious when she mentioned MJ "won" when it came to some stupid arguement about music on that fateful day.

At another time this co-worker wondered out loud if Prince's baby's deformities (she thought the baby was still alive) had something to do with God's way of punishing him for his sinful ways.

She's stupid. I've distanced myself from her.

Another co-worker chastised me when I said D'Angelo was my favorite male singer. I think he mentioned teeny-bopper in reference to D'Angelo. I snapped at him a little.

I used to feel that way. but it's just like.... people have different tastes i will jam to so & so and... if someone else doesn't oh well:P i realize music means a lot to all of us. But it's not like they are insulting people we personally know. So it's silly to let it bother you to the point of not talking to someone or distancing yourself.

Don't get mad at me, but when I was in my early teens, though I would flaunt mj to people who were fans too or appreciated him at least, with others I was so secretive about it, cause I thought my parents would make fun of me though they are the ones who got me into him as a kid from afar, but when it became REALLY LIKE I was trying to stay all calm....but I couldn't hide the excitement One time nothing was happening and my mom suddenly started cornering me on loving him so much and trying to say something mean to get a reaction (now I realize) and I got all red cause I wasn't shutting up to my baby sis about how much I loved him and she had said something!!!! But it was also around that time things were quiet with him and I was more into Janet and after people at my new school were a bit mean about him, I felt too sad about being a big fan though I was and just didn't play him everyday for awhile though when I did, it was all good again. Then after my mid teens, though I was still reserved, overtime I was just trying to tell myself to not give a fuck anymore and do what I want, plus I had time and some money to add to my collection, so I bought something for the sake of it and got hooked more and then bought more and continued adding to it. I don't think this even had to do with mj, it had to do with my insecure attitude and getting triggered if people called him gay or weird, cause I was in denial about my own sexuality and being worried people would associate that with me and couldn't take them criticizing him cause it was an attack on me, it was so dumb. Anyways I know I'm bi, and by the time I grew confident and it wasn't cool to be a fan, I performed him for people anyways, they loved it and even remembered me when he passed away and reached out to me and I won't forget it.

It's different on here because we all come in with the general assumption that there will be disagreement and it is just a screen afterall. It's different than someone right in your face with that age old refrain, "That sucks". Boring.

I mean, if someone is not into music & just listens to whatever on the radio and doesn't care about cd's, music theroy or whatever. i'm not going to talk to them about those subjects.

And tons of people i know dislike Prince, Bob Dylan, Fishbone, Zeppelin, Rob Zombie, Pet Shop Boys, Terence Trent D'arby etc. And other artists i dig. And i'm lik eh... i don't think i am going ot change your mind even on here when i try to convince them an artist i like is good they have a set mind already no matter what they will suck.

the topic of favorite artists, for which sometimes we can be ashamed. This is not a "hater" theme.

I try to not get emotionally invested in artists because they are people too and make mistakes. But I let a huge sigh after I read Whitney's toxicology reports. I felt sorry more than anything because Whitney had an aging mother and a grown daughter who really needed her love and support, but for whatever reason she was still getting high. I wonder to this day what pain she was trying to cover by using.
