During the early 80s when I got hooked on Prince, I was a fan of a lot of Punk and Post-Punk bands at the same time. Bad Brains, Joy Division, and the Smiths were some of the bands. Anybody else had or still have a passion for Prince and Punk?

I don't know if I'd call the Smiths punk, but I'm definitely with you on the loving Prince while loving what you call punk. Good music is just good music, regardless of the genre.

Well, Prince is my favorite artist and Joy Division is my favorite band.

Right now I'm listening to a bootleg from 1982 and during Bambi the guitar hook sounds like "I'm so bored in the USA" -- remember that song? The Avengers, I think.

So I was just thinking about those punk days and saw this topic...

I love Buzzcocks to death, and well, gotta admit i recently feel in love for anything by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Sex pistols never been a fan. But the Clash and Smith, definitely!
Punk music (real one) is one of the most underated (yet fashionnable these days) music ever!

I was into all of them before Prince. My friends still can't understand how I got into P but variety is the spice of life!

Do note that PhilG listed punk and POST punk. Many acts that were classified as "New Wave" or "Post Modern" were also called "Post Punk". The Smiths definitely fall into this category. Some of my faves Ot the "Post Punk" scene:

The best Punk album of the last 10 years has got to be the last Rancid album. Holy shit that album smoked! 22 songs in 39 minutes. Rancid are one of the only punk bands around worth caring about. The Distillers are also excellent whos vocalist is Tim(Rancids) wife.
