He was cool from 97 to about 2005 with me. After that, he lost me, big time.
Young Wayne had to really grow cause if not, he would be behind Juvenile and BG (always better than Wayne) on Cash Money.
Current Wayne don't have to do nothin cause he somehow can release anything and it will top the charts. SO he doesn't even try because he's already at the top (like it or not.) PRINCE: Always and Forever

I bought the Carter II but that was it.
Other than that, since he became popular, I find him annoying. I despise him actually. He looks like he smells and half the time his lyrics don't even make sense. I feel like he's become less popular since the Carter III came out and I can deal with that.

My personal feelings are that Lil Wayne's a so-so rapper at best. Also i think he's irresponsible, overrated, overexposed, Misogynist, a fake gangster, and is addicted to drugs.
Having said that; some of his songs are catchy so i can see why people listen to his music.
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

The Carter 3 was the best album he released, nice beats and his best work to date. There are some good stuff from his other albums (before the carter 3) but his best era is from 98-08. He did good on The Carter 3 because of the production and because we know he got help with writing it, there's a decline in his rapping because prior he had ghostwriters and afterwards he probably believed the hype and started writing his own verses and that's why it sucks!

i don't GET him. (I guess i'd have to listen to get him to begin with though right....but i digress) i'm baffled by his success. the era of hip hop i grew up on was such you don't GET a second chance. he was wack when he came out with Cash $ and ppl clowned on him/them and I'm surprised he's become this generation's Tupac of sorts. i'm like REALLY!!?? I'm glad to say the only song i've actually heard of his that i can point out is Lollipop because i avoid the radio and places that would have him in heavy rotation like the plague. (i remember being on the treadmill in the gym when that song was out and thinking so THIS is Lil Wayne... i'm not missing anything...) so i've never danced to his stuff or had a chance to hear any wit, etc. i THINK i could only recognize his voice because he sounds like he has a frog in his throat. i feel sad for this generation of hip hop fans who've made him as huge as he is, just indicative of how far the bar has been lowered. maybe i'm guilty of hating what i haven't heard but oh well, convince me otherwise. (well on 2nd thought, don't, better things to do with my listening time)

I can't stand Tha Block Is Hot.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The Block Is Hot was the shit when it dropped. But he still was a 2nd tier Cash Money artist behind Juve and BG. BG's Chopper City In The Ghetto is a classis southern hip-hop album.
Wayne got his style from another Cash Money artist Lil Slim. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Man, early Cash Money was the shit, and I mean early ...
(this song is about Mystikal, not yet signed to No Limit Records but a local label Big Boy. Big Boy and Cash Money had some real beef.)

I knew Cash Money changed the moment they got rid of the Hot Boyz, but once they signed Teena Marie (and to a lesser Mack 10) I knew it was different.
This was like 2004. CMB use to be nothin' but New Orleans cats. Once they started goin other places, they left that hardcore gangsta rap alone.
My cousin from Louisiana put me on to them. They began in 1992. The other labels in New Orleans was Big Boy and Parkway Music. No Limit was still in Richmond until 1994. Most of No Limit's talent came from Big Boy and Parkway. I remember he had a bunch of early BG albums. BG was the main dude in Cash Money from around 95-99. They had a huge fued with Big Boy which included Mystikal, Fiend, and some others. Parkway had Soulja Slim, and a few lesser known No Limit guys like Full Blooded. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I am sure they feel very "hard" together on that cover. "I took another bubble bath, with my pants on. All the fighting stopped. Next time I’ll do it sooner.”

I honestly don't get his appeal.
