Kelis in Hot Water with Tax Officials

July 3, 2012

Link

While Kelis jet-sets around Europe doing shows, Uncle Sam is waiting for her to take care of some tax issues back at home.

According to reports, New York officials have filed two federal tax liens, totaling $330,426, against Kelis.

The IRS alleged that Kelis failed to pay federal income taxes for 2004 and 2010. News of the singer's debt in New York comes just weeks after tax officials in California filed a state tax lien against her for $61,737.

With all that money she's getting from Nas, she's having tax issues?

Arent those the years that she lived with Nas? I know Nas had tax problems too. These artists should really get better people to pay their taxes... neutral

Every time I read about these things, two things come up:

Either they get their money through cash like Ron Isley or Chuck Berry or Lauryn Hill

Or they have bad accountants like R. Kelly, Marvin Gaye (who also had a bad spending habit), Elvis (though the IRS didn't sue him, he was in mad debt before his death, I think he only had $1 million in his account when he died).

Lets say they do have accountants or other people taking care of their money, why do they have a hard time paying their taxes? It's not complicated at all. Perhaps there's something else we dont know? Or are they simply greedy? ... Kelis people better fix this tho, for the sake of her 2 year old son. neutral neutral neutral

Not being set up... But probably being taken advantage of for their lack of knowledge about financial isssues...

If an accountant tells you "Ill look out for you, you just sing"?... Then things can go wrong
The same thing for pro athletes...

I used to always suggest to artist to get an accountant, then give his phone number to your lawyer so they can keep contact...

Can we get a STICKY for these dumb motherfr's who cant manage the finances, SHIT, pay your taxes im so sick of hearing crap like this, and giving people passes because they can cop pleas and get out when if this was anyone of us, we'd be doing time or hit with some nasty penalities. Tired of ignorant asses letting their barber and the chick in the salon, or baby daddy or cousin tisha do the taxes instead of letting someone do them that went to fucking school for it, shit.

These people should be forced to take a money management class before any contracts are signed.

I love NAS, he's one of my fav artists but I agree. I think that people have went overboard with the whole Kelis vs Nas thing, they loved each other and shit happens. Also it seems as if this occured when Kelis was married to Nas (and they both have tax problems lol)...
