I like George's music, especially Wham! era, but have no interest in D'Angelo. I can't get into the neo-soul music. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I like some George Michael songs, but I don't know why, but I've never taken him seriously for some reason.
D, still sounds as good as he did 12 years ago. His voice is so sexy! When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

You better go tell Trey Songz, Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-yo, Mindless Behavior, etc then.
I don't think they got the memo.

Not even his singing?
I think in hindsight I can see how he crafted perfect pop songs. I think anyone considering songwriting for the pop market should probably cop "The Best of Wham" and "The Best of George Michael".
Plus he had this Motown-y vibe going during the "Make It Big" years.

Well they're already established for better or worse.

I've heard his Wham material, my mom had some cds and also his solo material, but I dont know; I guess the tabloids and the whole masturbation thing in Malibu on the news as a child kinda made me not take him serious? I think he's a good singer but he doesn't move me like other singers, but I respect his songwriting and what he's done. Oh I agree George Michael's personal life is a textbook case in how to throw your life and career away.
I in no way mean to bait anyone but I think coming out was probably the worst thing to happen to him. Once he did that he became free to indulge in his most destructive vices. Some people need a barrier.
Plus after Faith that whole success (and having to deal with it alone) freaked him out. It's why I like Madonna in theory. She realized the limitations of major label contracts but exploited all that they were good for: Publicity!
