Cissy Houston To Perform Tribute To Whitney At BET Awards

NEW YORK — Whitney Houston‘s mother will perform a tribute to her late daughter alongside other female singers at the upcoming BET Awards.

A source familiar with BET’s plans said Tuesday that Cissy Houston will take the stage at the July 1 awards show to honor her daughter. Cissy will be joined by “a few top divas,” the source said, though the source could not give their names.

Watch Cissy Houston perform “I Am Not Old” here:

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the tribute has not been officially announced.

Whitney Houston died at age 48 in February. Authorities called her death an accidental drowning, complicated by heart disease and cocaine use.

The BET Awards airs live from The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Kanye West, Beyonce and Jay-Z are the top nominees.

This should be interesting. Can't wait to see this when I attend...

I'm not gonna watch because things like this always gets controversy all of the time. It's not a good look. I think back to 2007 after Gerald Levert died and his father performed in his honor on the BET Awards. It was just a weird look. confused

I know some may not care but is she in good voice? She could very well embarrass herself and her daughter if she hasn't been singing for awhile.

You know how older people sound when they haven't been singing in years and then all of a sudden, they call themselves coming out of retirement for whatever reason and just take a nice dump on their legacy in the process.

The first example I can recall is Deniece Williams performing with Monica @ the BET Awards. No disrespect to Niecy but she should have stayed home that night or just smiled in approval from the audience.....

I don't see how it is weird for her to honor her daughter. I think its great she has the strength to even get up there and sing for her.

Her voice is better than ever. She still sings at her church. A news channel did a interview with her there not long ago & she sounds great.

Well good for her. At least she kept exercising her chords.

Be nice if she brought Bobby up and honored her daughter and her choices in life.

Is Cissy in good voice? I never known Cissy Houston NOT to be in good voice...I want to see Cissy & Bobby Kris do more..Whitney lives on through her family and there's NOTHING wrong with the Houston Family doing what they do BEST that is SANG....

I've got my DVR ready to record the BET awards and looking forward to the FIRST real Whitney Houston Tribute that ONLY BET can do justice properly...

I'm glad they are keeping the Female-lineup a wrap but I BEG of them NO MORE Jennifer Hudson...I Love Jenn but I'm sick of her being the FACE of all the Tributes....Throw in some new faces...

You can almost bet your bottom-dollar Kim Burrrell and CeCe Winans will be singing...I'll be very surprised if they're not performing...

The show was decent this year...Maybe even better than last year....They IMRPOVED on the line-up...I was expecting to get about 80% Rap and 20% R&B...They deff even things out for their viewers.. ..Still waaay to long but what Award show isnt?

It was good to see Sexy Chante Moore covering a Donna Summer classic...Chante is underrated and one of only a handful of Vocalists that can hit & sustain the whistle-notes...Kenny Latimore is a Lucky Brotha (That's if they're still together)...

I like the way they produced the Memorial segments through-out the night..I've never seen it done that way..Whitney's Tribute was truly the highlight...I'm amazed that Cissy could get up there and do that...Whitney loved her Mother's voice more than anybody...May God Bless and always watch over Ms. Cissy Houston......It was good to see Mariah there....Monica deserved that standing ovation...We get to enjoy her Mad-Skillzzz for decades to come....Brandy did alright and more than anything her performance was personal...Always Love Chaka and she was giving the Crowd POW....Everytime I watch Chaka sing Every woman on TV I cringe...Her wailing during the bridge is not on point...It's as if she's giving you Lazy Vocals........

It was good to see D'Angelo still doing his thing..The brotha was doing his Falsetto way before Ursher, Robin and Maxwell....

Yolanda Adams gave the best accceptance speech..

I could not believe Lifetime Achievement honorees Frankie Beverly & Maze NEVER performed on LIVE tv before...I guess they're just one of those Legendary Acts that don't get TV gigs..Their fan-base keeps them on the road with sell-out shows...
