Janet Jackson- Funky Big Band

People gather 'round.
At the Lennox Lounge.
To hear the funky sounds.
The beat hits so hard.
There's no cover charge.
You have to feel the groove.

I thought that too, with elements of Vogue smile I love the buildup in the second half too with the instruments and vocals.

Ya know? I love how JJ & TL how they resorted to the "throw everything @ the wall and see what it will look like" fashion when it comes to samples. In fact, that album was my official introduction to the Hamp nod

I love this track. love it.

She should have performed this, new agenda, where are you now, the body that loves you, whoops now (on all shows) and left the whole whimsical idea for a GH show. The janet. tour was a time she could have performed only album tracks and still sell out.

...Anyway I always thought it would be cool if after TTWLG when Janet says 'tish don't look into the camera' someone begins to plays 'funky big band' on the player and they all dance their asses off in that studio - would be an awesome transition into a new video - like 'the knowledge' before 'RN'

That would be like Missy and Busta Rhymes videos, and all the other hip hop artists who did that lol

I agree that the lounge setting in that's the way love goes would have worked though. And if not performed, Funky Big Band could have been mixed in with the Alright performance at the Janet tour the way Madonna mixes in elements of songs, or it could have been used as a video interlude on the tour before That's the way love goes or Alright.

In the same way, Feels So Right I feel should have been incorporated with Got Till It's Gone (if not replaced), That's the Way Love Goes in the All For You tour.

I love how they didn't do the typical lazy sampling that some producers did back then and still do now. From JB to Stevie to Hamp this record had some great use of samples without cheapening the original's value.

"Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)" for the intro to "New Agenda".

I'll have to listen for it again smile I do remember her talking about listening to Stevie during the making of this album, but she cited Secret Life of Plants being a favourite album of hers

"Funky Big Band" is one of the dopest tracks on the janet. album. I love the way she big-upped Harlem and the Lenox Lounge. Excellent sampling as well. Love how Janet got her "scat" on on this track.
