Thats the thing, there not use to real live shows, without gimmicks. D angelo showcased what a live show is all about, live vocals, high energy, and musianship but of course, youngins dont appreciate that and apparently old folks dont either . The only sincere person that looked like they were enjoying it was Common and there probably were some more the camera didnt show. Besides that, the audience for the most part were clueless because their so use to looking at shit. But like have said here about BET is true. BET caters to a specific demographic and that wasnt D angelo's audience but Im sure alot of people at home enjoyed it. [Edited 7/5/12 11:56am]

Regarding D'Angelo's performance, I saw a bunch of comments where people said they liked how his performance started ("Untitled [How Does It Feel]") but not how it finished. Someone even said "with a prince-ish jam at the end", then I realized why I loved the whole set!

Beyonce and Solange seemed to genuinely enjoy it. Matter of fact, I think they were 2 seconds away from throwing their drawers on the stage.
Everybody else, tho didn't know what the hell to make of it. Poor Nicki Minaj looked like a deer in headlights.
I can imagine the conversation between her and older people in the audience.
"What are those buttons he's pressing to make it sound like a piano"?
"Uh, he's actually playing the piano".
"Who are those other people on stage and why aren't they shaking their butts"?
"Those are called musicians".

Beyonce and her sis are really bad actors, they act that whenever anybody performs because the camera is constantly in their face But for the most part its sad the audience wasnt all that into it. Some cats like Common seemed to be really enjoying it and it was exactly nice to see that being D is a peer of his from that particular era

Chaka's singing tonight was nothing special but she looked amazing!!! Chaka has lost her some serious pounds. The last few times I've seen her live she was wearing all black, huge capes trying to cover up the bulk and super huge hair. But tonight, she looked great, and she was wearing a color! Chaka in a color. Anything is possible.
D'Angelo was amazing! Wow, I couldn't believe how good he sounds. And, he looks better than I expected. I'm glad he's trying to make his comeback. Cissy Houston showed a lot of strength and courage. Brandy was doing the damn thing and so was Monica. Love those two ladies!
I didn't EVEN recognize Chante' Moore. I haven't seen her in so long, but she still sounds great. I don't think artists should perform at their own honorary tributes. Other performers are paying tribute to you; 9 out of 10 they're not going to be as good as you (though I thought Joe did a good job) but the honoree just needs to graciously accept the award. Oh and I loved seeing Mimi. I adore Mariah Carey!

Remember Prince's Lifetime Achivement Award from the 2010 BET Awards when he left with the quickness? Prince had to watch "Purple Rain" get butchered twice while putting on airs to keep from crying. I think for the honorees, they view the BET Awards as the best exposure they're going to get at the stage in their career and perform, hoping to turn younger people onto their music. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Who is Joe?? Say what, now? "I took another bubble bath, with my pants on. All the fighting stopped. Next time I’ll do it sooner.”

This show wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Some of it was pure crap, like Kanye and his ho Kim, Chris Brown can not sing. He can dance, but singing is not his forte. Nicki Manaj - I just don't get her at all. Some if it was tacky, but I loved:
Maze/Frankie tribute Whitney tribute - all singers were great and Cissy tore my heart in two with her rendition of "bridge over troubled water". D'Angelo - Very impressive. He rocked that place! I hope he releases a new cd soon. He still has real talent.

The non Hiphop/rap parts of the show were great. The hiphop/rap parts were complete GARBAGE in my book.
