There is no Jermaine Motown compilations out there, none. At least Arista remastered all his albums and put out a doudle disc compilation of those 4 records in case you didn't want them all.

He has 9 albums on Motown (plus 3 that were shelved) and only 2 were ever put on CD. His debut from 72 which was remaster in 2000 as an import (which is goin for $120 on Amazon, lol) and Let's Get Serious re-released in 1992 (probably in support of An American Dream.)

There was an import released like 5 years ogo on the UK Motown label Spectrum and before that a compilation from 1991 that's hasn't been in print since.

Some of them were in print in Japan, don't know if they still are. I have all of the records, so don't need the CDs, except maybe Frontiers because my LP is cracked, but it's playable. Now I would like Motown to release the unreleased Norman Harris sessions from 1975 and any other vault material. A compilation with B-sides, single only tunes, and soundtrack songs like Erucu and the Tata Vega duet You'll Never Rock Alone would also be nice.

Sony also released a compilation (entitled "Greatest Hits") in late 2009 of his Arista/LaFace work, presumably in response to the renewed interest in all things Jackson after Michael's death.

I'd like to see his Motown albums reissued on CD, especially everything from '77 to '82, but at least the few compilations that are out there are good... I've got the UK 'Big Brother' compilation from 2007 and there's some good rarer stuff on that.

The Arista albums are available in Japan, so I guess they can be bought as imports. They were released in 2009, and I think they were remastered. But I haven't heard them. I don't know what the bonus songs are, probably remixes.

I honestly cannot understand why this remendous piece of work should remain stuck on a tape just gathering dust. Jermaine was as well suited to the Philly sound as was Eddie Kendricks.

It was issued in America, and I believe that I have a copy of it as well as Weldon.
It was produced by the Baker/Harris and Young triumverate(really Baker/ Harris) Earl never really produced anything of significance. He was just a partner in the company.
A lot of the material was written with the late Bruce Gray, Ron Tyson of the Love Committee/Ethics/Tempts, Bunny Sigler, the late Allen Felder, Ronnie Baker and Norman harris, and I believe, Talmadge Conway as well.
The usually A-list crew was on hand in the studio and Carl Paruolo and Jim Gallagher did most of the engineering chores. I remember Jermaine having his rather new bride Hazel-Gordy- Jackson with him. I must dig out my stydio pics of all this stuff as soon as i get back to Philly.
Also, another related story.
In 1968, while doing my second Apollo gig with the Vibrations, who were the "stars" ,we were riding up 125th street to check out the marquee, and in tiny letters on the bottom it said and "the Jackson five and Johnny"
We all thought out loud,"who the f**k are they"
So anyway, while we were backstage the first day there was a hustler type guy who called himself "sweet baby james" believe it or not.
He was sort of ghetto looking and not impressive, and he said to us "hey man, I got these young kids here, its their first serious gig and I'm their manager and s**t" " I want y'all to check 'em out 'cause they bad and they gon' be large'!! they got this little fella, cant be no more that nine or ten, man" ' Ya gotta see 'em dance an do they thing" ' Thet a mo*******er man!!!"
Joe Jackson was there as well, and when the Vibrations peerformed, Jermaine let me plug my guitar into his amp!!
So when he came in to record with us , he rememgered the incident. Sweet baby James was soon nowhere to be found!!!!!
We were also on a show with them at the Regal in
chicago shortly thereafter and this was where Bobby Taylor met them and told me backstage verbatim "Hey man, I gotta take these little dudes to meet Berry. He's gonna love 'em"
So you heard it straight from someone who WAS THERE, LIVE AND IN LIVING COLOR!!!!!

It's Harry Weinger, the reissue producer et al... I am enjoying this site - so much so, that I see no reason to post. However, in the spirit of the love and passion shown here I will attempt to share some insights from time to time... if that's OK, since for the most part I was NOT there. - but hey, sometimes I have info or have heard things that have passed through time and may otherwise be forgotten.

That said, yo, Bobby, Jermaine's Philly album never came out, period. I have the track list somewhere, will post when I dig it up.

And then maybe we'll see about its release, someday someway.

I remember doing a few in the "he's a friend" Going up in smoke" vein that Norman Harris did so well. Jermaine seemed really happy to be working with us and always had a happy grin.
The sessions were one of a handful of Motown released albums that were entirely recorded and mixed at Sigma, the other was a Tempts album that we did( I forgot the name) We also did a Tempts album for their short stint at Atlantic, I think it was "Hear to tempt you"
I produced , with Weldon a single called "No more beautiful days" for Jimmy Randolph on Motown, around 1973. It was kind of an O.C. Smith type song.

Thanks for setting the record straight about the Jermaine album. I could sworn that it was issued.
Must be some kind of sub-conscious deja vu type of thing coupled with a large degree of wishful thinking. As I have previosly stated, there were some decent songs recorded so it was more than likely a political thing between B.G. and the production entity.
Hope that it will resurface soon and maybe I can do a few remixes. (hint hint).

It was THAT good......Jermaine was never one of my favourites until I heard that album. You guys knew EXACTLY what to do with him.

I have this compilation and it's excellent...18 tracks beginning with his early 70s stuff,going all the way to 1992.

The best Motown-era Jermaine Jackson compilation that has been compiled/released thus far. This brother does need his Motown albums re-released though. I believe the only album that has been officially released on CD is Let's Get Serious.

Well my comment had Sarcasm in it but if you must know no I don't believe that he doesn't have a fanbase but at the same time the public in general is not in hurry for any releases from him. I did like his don't take it personal album though.

Yep, your right LBC! I've never seen one of these done on any of Jermaine's Motown solo albums. Hip-O Select would make a killing if they reissue all of his albums. "Bass Odyssey" is the business!

Oh, I wasn't sure, but I remember they had a lot of these out during that time. I have the 1972 Jermaine album on CD, but it's Japanese. Japan releases usually have the date it came out on them, and this one has March 15, 2000 on it. The booklet has liner notes in Japanese with a date of December 1999 at the end.

I think they did an excellent job compiling all of DeBarge's albums last year, even though the liner notes were average. I thought it was a great package. I would like Jermaine to get the same treatment.

Plus he has three unreleased album. 1975's Do Unto Others (recorded while he and his brothers were still at Motown, but pulled once they decided to leave), 1976 Color My World Love (which he recorded in Phily the same time his brothers were recording their CBS debut) and 1979's Living.
