Cameo/Lakeside/Harold Melvin's Blue Notes Going to see these bands tomorrow in Glendale, Colorado. Anybody else going?
I've always liked Cameo, Knights of the Sound Table is one of my favorite albums. Cameosis is good too. "Were Going Out Tonight", "Sparke", "Keep It Hot" I love their early stuff.
Who is Harold Melvin's Blue Notes? Is that another name of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes?
It's great timing for this concert, nothing like a all day summer outdoor concert....can't wait!!

The Funkapolloza Concert was an all day event: Started at 02:00 with some local acts who did mostly just covers. Real concert started at 05:00 with Harold Melvin's Blue notes, yes the original members minus the late Harold Melvin and Teddy Pendergrass. They were good, did their smash hits "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Wake Up Everybody", "Bad Luck". Their lead singer sounded a lot like Teddy.
Then Lakeside took the stage, they were ok, I think they could have did better song selections but they did mangage to get in "It's All The Way Live", "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" "Raid" and finish with "Fantastic Voyage". I still can't forgive them for NOT playing "Your Love Is On The One" Up till this point, wife and I sat down for entire concert.......
THEN Cameo hit the stage around 08:30pm, and we did not sit down for the entire concert! They were great..opened with "Shes Strange", piled on the hits from there. You were right! Cameo was bad!!! She's Strange Back and Forth Candy Attack Me With Your Love Flirt Keep It Hot I Just Want To Be and the finale......Word Up (w, o, r, d.....up) was changed at the end to (c, a, m, e, o) They hit on their Cameosis albums with "Why Have I Lost You" which was introduced by a nice talk about love and respect from Tomi Jenkins, he seemed like a really cool guy. Was funny after they sang that song, Blackmon said "if you heard that one, you damn well heard this one" and then they went in to Sparkle! Slightly disappointed they didn't touch Knights Of The Sound Table, would love to have heard Freakin Dancin or I Like It. Very good show, will definitely see them again if they come back to Denver! I give it an A

I saw that version of Harold Melvin's Blue Notes on a TV special devoted to the Philly Sound. The lead singer sounds alot like Teddy Pendergrass. | |
