Tyler Perry's smart. He always uses stereotypes to portray blacks because he knows more white people watch it than blacks. Coming from a white person, I can honestly say that a bunch of white people just love watching a black man dressed as a woman saying where's the cool aid. Why, I don't know, but I think part of the reason is society has told these people that's how black people are.

Such a non event, but she's gotta stay in the headlines if she's gonna sell a movie. Couldn't help but think it was a coincedence Katie filed for divorce from Tom this week.

Divorce just to PROMOTE Rock Of Ages?

I'm just saying the timing is weird. I'm not saying it's the reason behind it though.

I guess he/she is referring to the fact that majority of MJB's fan base is African-American.

And the majority of Steven Tyler's is white, but he's pimping crispy chicken strips in his commercial too.

The point of a marketing campaign is to appeal to the widest customer base possible. Of course the MJB one was geared toward African Americans. That's the point of marketing and why they hired her.

I don't necessarily see the commercial as being racist but it's tacky as heck.

Now if everyone in the commercial was black, then maybe i would say it was.

What i will say though is that the people who started the stereotyping and racism in america(slave owners, white supremacists, certain religious people, etc), really messed us all up. Hundreds of years later and were still paying the price for their bullshit ideals and actions. Its obvious to me that america is still suffering from its racist past. It seems like no matter how hard we try to get past race, it still factors in and it shouldn't be that way. One thing that does upset me though is when i hear people make comments like, "just get over it" or "that was so long ago" when they talk about america's past. I would say to them that some wrongs are so fucked up and damaging to a Psyche that they can never be made right.

Another thing that pissses me off is that some of my people (blacks) reinforce certain negative stereotypes. Personally i look at them just like i would look at a KKK member. I look at it in the same way as Chuck D does...... Every brother ain't a brother". Every race has it's good and bad.

Some folks are just addicted to being offended. lol They'll find any molehill to blow up into a mountain whilst ignoring REAL issues in the world. MJB and her chicken are hardly worth a mention, IMHO. She's gotten her money and is laughing all the way to the bank.

As for her fanbase, I'd say long gone are the days that she's been only on one side of the charts. She's quietly built up a fanbase outside of her original one by collabs and associating w/ various big names from the rock world. Mary J has more juice than she's been credited for IMHO. wink In fact, her overall appeal is why BK chose her IMHO...not just to appeal to Black folks. cool

In the United States, fried chicken has stereotypically been associated with African Americans. The reasons for this are various. Chicken dishes were popular among slaves before the Civil War, as chickens were generally the only animals slaves could raise on their own.

I think they also said that black American folks during that same time also ate watermelon all the time. So both types of food were typecasted as derogatory after that. We're still stinging with that stigma but Mary J. Blige didn't do shit wrong with her ad. Maybe it was stupid but racist? Nah.

I agree. I saw the commercial and saw no racism whatsoever. She just looked hella dumb singing the stupid-ass jingle they made her sing. LOL!

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
