Moonwalk & Dancing the Dream: Poems and Reflections

My brutha and I were talking about artists who wrote books and stuff like that. We talked about T-Boz, Ashanti and finaly MJ's name crossed the conversation's way. And my brutha was like "the man got vision despite what the media have shown him to be" I was like "HOLD UP! MJ,,Mike, Michael?? The Michael Jackson?? He wrote books?? eek" I honestly didn't know that. I was like, if he really wrote sumthin then why the hell nobody gave a damn about that?? Very confusing indeed. Anyway, he(my brutha) told me that he used to read "Moonwalk & Dancing The Dream" when he was in college and he enjoyed 'em alot.

What are these books about?? Tell me EVERY info you have about MJ's writing activites.

Moonwalk is a fluffy autobiography that MJ wrote in the 80s. It's fun, but doesn't offer much deep insight.

Dancing the Dream is a poetry/essay collection. I like it a lot. I think that it offers an honest picture of him much more so than Moonwalk.

Moonwalk can be a little hard to find, but I imagine you can find Dancing the Dream w/o too much trouble.

Moonwalk was a Ghost written AutoBio Book with some insights on His Music like for instance "Wanna Be Startin' Sonethin" was a Carry over from "Off The Wall" but it's kina fluffy stuff.Dancing the Dream Showcases Him as a Poet.some things are cool but it met with little fanfare back in 1992.I still got my Book.you can find these Books in either Used Stores or on line.I found alot of Jackson stuff in Used Stores&some Prince stuff as well among others.

MoonWalk was more interesting at the time but didn't say a whole lot.Dancing The Dream had some alright Moments but soemthing about Music Artists Written Poems in a Book ain't exactly gonna knock me out.they sit on My Self&I Walk right by them.I got a ton of Books.I also have that John Lennon Poetry Book around the House as well&2Pac's Poetry Book but I have to be in the Mood for reading them.now Nikki Giovanni&Maya Angelou I'll read all day.

Thats IT lol you're prefectionist. When you think of Maya Angelou along with MJ as poets,,,who will you dig?? Thats a dumb ass question right?? But when you think of MJ without al of them poets you might as well dig it,,just my opinion.

Anyway, did he talk about other celebs, did he made funny remarks(I'm talking about in general)?? Any mention of Prince?? Anything else whats so ever?

I read Moonwalk when I was about 11. I enjoyed it at the time but I read it again a few years later and it was more obvious to me that it wasn't really an autobiography as such, just a happy little sugar coated story about MJ's favourite songs and memories of performing.

I do have Dancing The Dream and it's best for the great paintings, photographs and MJ's personal drawings (he really is a VERY good artist). The poems are cute, some better than others. It's a nice collector's piece.

Moonwalk was fluff. I think that what happened was that Michael Jackson was asked a bunch of questions and a ghost writer pieced together his answers to make a story. A lot of stories are glossed over, but there are some particularly telling moments (i.e. Michael recalling seeing a cross-dresser on stage at a young age and remarking upon his/her "gorgeous" eyelashes). I rather like Dancing The Dream, Michael is a fairly eloquent writer and, if anything, the intent of the poems is quite sweet.

Thank U guys wink

I'm kinda tempted 2 buy both actualy, my only fear is if I'm gonna read "Moonwalker" about MJ and how he cries 4 everything, children, cartoon, James Brown and all of that typical stuff he talked about. If these stuff ain't there then I'm gonna buy it.

Dancing The Dreams sounds like a must nod

I felt like that it was too early for an autobiography for MJ. Moonwalk came out in 1988. It has some interesting moments. Like the meaning behind "That's What You Get For Being Polite" and what was going on in him mind when he acquired the Beatles catalog. However, I think he should have waited a little longer before issuing his first autobio. Not a bad read though.

If writing about music is like dancing about architecture, is writing about dancing like designing abuilding based on "Earth Song?"

My sister calls "That's What You Get For Being Polite" Michael's 'coming out of the closet' song. Just thought I'd throw that in for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I flipped through Moonwalk once...it read like it was written by someone in grade school. There was no voice...or it was a very passive one if there was.
