Jazz/Funk/Pop etc: Snarky Puppy - "Thing Of Gold" ...
Late last year, theAudience blew me away with a post on the massive music collective called Snarky Puppy. His post featured clips from their CD/DVD called "Tell Your Friends", (so of course I had to go out and do that, Lol!) I was impressed not only by the musicianship, but also the compositions, the tight sound, and overall dynamic feel.
Snarky Puppy is made up of various musicians from New York and Texas (many of them graduates from the University of North Texas) and the UK, from various backgrounds-- Jazz, Gospel, Hip Hop Funk, Rock, Classical, World Music, etc... With over 25 players in regular rotation, The core of the group features Robert “Sput” Searight on drums (God’s Property, Snoop Dogg) and Shaun Martin on Mini-Moog and keys (Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu), as well as young organ prodigy Cory Henry (Kenny Garrett, Kim Burell) and multi-instrumentalist Louis Cato (Marcus Miller, Q-Tip, George Duke). Its members play with artists like Erykah Badu, Marcus Miller, Bilal, P Diddy, The Polyphonic Spree, Snoop Dogg, Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, Morcheeba, Tower of Power, Ari Hoenig/Adam Rogers, Justin Timberlake, Kenny Garrett, Yo-Yo Ma, Lucy Woodward, among many more.
In addition various players like Bernard Wright (Miles Davis, Marcus Miller) and Bobby Sparks ( Marcus Miller) are unofficial members...
At the center of the group is composer, bandleader and Bassist Mike League, who continues to amaze me with his compositional prowess and his playing....
Their latest CD/DVD is called groundUp, and "Thing of Gold" is one of the cuts from the disc... They seem to be going from underground secret to international recognition--I hope it continues!

^^^Love that tune...(chicken skin from the recurring theme)
Nice approach to his bass solo. Treats it as part of the composition rather than a note-fest.
