Sly sleeping with Larry??? Nah, they had Bubba Banks and Sly bashing Larry hard though, on why he departed from the band in 1972.

Decent episode. Loved seeing Jerry, Greg and Cynthia on there. Sly was cool too surprisingly enough. He'll always be an eccentric.

I watched it tonight, and enjoyed it. Definitely insightful, I learned some things about Sly that I did not know before. Did anyone else notice that during some parts of the interview Sly's hair was blond, and in other parts his hair was his regular color? They must have interviewed him on two separate days.

Very late on Saturday evening, or rather Sunday morning, came Sly & The Family Stone: 3:30 am.

imo Sly and the Family Stone, along with Jimi Hendrix were the stellar stars of woodstock the concert.

I would have loved to have seen the Woodstock Concert, but I was only 6 years old at the time. Much too young, unfortunately. There was a guy who I used to work with who went to the Woodstock Concert. It would be cool to be part of music history like that.

Sly's way of living is just fascinating. I noticed that there were a couple of associates, including his children, saying that he chooses to live the way he does "by choice." He is definitely a man of eccentricity.

I was shocked that Sly and Bubba Banks still hold a grudge over Larry Graham leaving the group. That incident happened 40 years ago. However, Sly's dig at Larry Graham's manhood was fascinating. Something to the effect that, "if I had a problem as a man, I would handle it and not leave the band". No wonder Larry wants nothing to do with a reunion and is deeply spiritual.

Secondly, the way Sly described making his pit bull "apologize" to Sly Jr. after mauling his son was something else to behold, lol.

Those two points were among the best parts of the episode.

To think this has happened 40 years ago and things have not been officially healed is a travesty. But honestly, I think the only one who has moved on from the craziness is Larry. I think he still has an appreciation for Sly and his contributions to the music.

The "pitbull incident" with his son was disturbing. I've always known about it, but I didn't know Sly punished the dog in that fashion. Sly was a wild, no-nonsense guy.

Another great part was the controversial 1970 Chicago, Grant Park concert riot. WOW! To think that there were pictures that existed of that turbulent moment was something to behold. They tore my city (Chicago) up back in the day because of Sly's "illness." Now I look at the no-shows in a different light partially. The guy had some inner demons that were deeply unbelievable.

Cynthia's confessions about Sly's womanizing craziness was amusing and sad at the same time.

This man needs those documentaries to be released now...

Somehow I can imagine Prince watching this episode of Unsung with Larry Graham, while his lawyer was watching "Hollywood Exes" to see if there Mayte says too much, lol.

But seriously, Rickey Vincent, the guy in the episode has written extensively about Sly and The Family Stone. His book, "Funk: The Rhythm, Music and The People" is an encyclopedia for funk music and wrote liner notes for the Graham Central Station anthology. I wanted to hear more of his thoughts.

They could have made this episode an hour and half long. They talked about Riot and Fresh albums for half a minute and spent the rest of the time talking about Sly's drug habit. For example, I would've wanted to hear Sly's thoughts on his recording and production techniques on the band's seminal records or his thoughts on artists who are clearly influenced by his music.

I also would have liked to have seen more info on the making of, and techniques used for, the Small Talk and especially the High On You albums that were releasaed after Fresh. High On You needs to be remastered again as that album is IMO an unsung masterpiece!!
