Here, My Dear is actually my Marvin favorite. I've always been a fan, though and it isn't too much that Marvin has done (musically) that I haven't liked. But his story is very, very dark and I find it very haunting. It seems that the most creative, talented individuals are also the most disturbed.

I just watched it all the way. I feel so so sad.
As complicated and complex the man was, I still feel he left us way too soon. I understand that it's possible that he may had wanted to go, seemed he was really tired of his life, tired of seeking approval from someone who refused to give him approval, tired of running, tired of performing, tired of trying to stay afloat, just plain ole' tired. If someone just could had gotten him out of that house. Then again, what's worse, us waking up one day hearing that Marvin Gaye had taken his own life, or the actual fact that he was murdered by his own father? I really don't think one version is better than the other, they are equally devastating effects. Urgh. Even though I was only 19 months old when he passed on, still years later, it's really sad. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I was born like 11 days after he was shot but it's like when you hear an event that happened not too long before your own birth, it touches you even if you didn't experience it. [Edited 6/27/12 19:37pm]

My dad was an avid Marvin fan. He used to tell me about how he loved that Marvin basically gave Berry Gordy the middle finger when Gordy wasn't trying to release the "What's Going On" album. He got a real kick out of that. "You couldn't fuck with Marvin". It makes me chuckle. But my mom said that the day Marvin Gaye died, my father was just disturbed the whole day about it. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I can believe it. I have to say though I'm a fan of Marvin, I'm stunned with how many lives he touched that when he died, for them, the world stopped. Lots of black folks reacted like "wow, I thought I was shocked when John Lennon got copped, but Marvin shook me to my core" or something to that effect. Struck me as how influential he was to anyone who listened to his music and then you have to go back to that time period when Marvin was popular. He truly was an R&B king to them so to lose Marvin was big, real big. In fact the responses I read it sounds like the ones that were shocked when you-know-who died just three years ago.

I never saw this before. "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
