Mariah and Celine Dion have sold more than Whitney. My question is, what do you base this asumption upon?

Janet got critical acclaim for playing the icy "Jo" in "For Colored Girls", and her dramatic work in "Why Did I Get Married Too" also drew good reviews. Neither of those characters resembled anything she did before. But hey, it's your opinion.

nod nod nod Great performances expecially that part in WDIGMT with the golf club. However I do think she'd probably be better in more fictional movies. Maybe a voice over, she's definetly got the voice for it

She recently did voiceover work as Ella Fitzgerald in the documentary The Savoy King.

I only bought the Bodyguard album which isn't a full Whitney album

I have a lot of songs from her 1980's stuff, love her pop stuff maybe a song from the Preachers Wife

Whitney trying to do RnB and being like all the other female vocalists after Bodyguard was a bad move on her part

She should have learned opera and took her career to another level

I'm quite the opposite. I prefer her R&B work. I do love How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, So Emotional however. Often times Whitney's voice was too big for those elementary songs they gave her. Shes the queen of Power Ballads.

My Love is Your love was her best album, in my opinion.

nod My absolute favorite from her. That album jams to this day. Classic.

Edited for fact checking:

“Miss You Much” became the first single to simultaneously top the Hot 100, R&B, and Dance charts in October of 1989.

Janet is hardly even mentioned anymore outside of the org. Not hating. Just being honest.

Madonna, Mariah & Whitney (and yes pre-death as well) get much more media play.

Have you been on other websites, or do you watch news media shows? Because she is talked about. Whether she's turning up at an event, or touting the fact that she's producing a documentary (which she is), or even if it's just about her body, it's always on E! News, ET, BET, etc. New album rumors have recently been sparked as well. And then there was that recent talk of her possibly joining X-Factor (which I'm glad she didn't), before Britney Spears was named as the new judge.

Mariah Carey is only ever talked about lately whenever anyone mentions Nick Cannon. There was that duet she did with Bieber last Christmas, and Jenny Craig, but that's it. As for Whitney, before she passed, there was talk of Sparkle, and also that incident that happened on the airplane last year, but...

Madonna will do anything to keep herself in the headlines, be damned, so that's no surprise there.

The thing with Janet is, she grew up with fame. She was never as fame hungry as some of her contemporaries who didn't grow up with it, but craved it like they craved food. That's one thing I've always admired about her. She never needed to be famous. She was raised with it, and eventually attained it on her own. I'm convinced that's why she's never gone through the trouble of having most of her back catalogue re-certified, just to prove something. And that's why she's content doing her own thing, (the book, the #1s tour, the transgender documentary, the film production deal). The proof of her legacy is in the younger crop of pop artists.

You must be smoking the same ish Whitney was when she did that Wendy interview.

As an artist Whitney and Mariah are about as exciting as watching paint dry - from their awkward videos and unimaginative album concepts.

But Whitney as a person was far more interesting than Janet - because all her problems were evident and she had a hard time concealing her problems during live performances and in interviews - car crash viewing = more media coverage (same with Mariah) - Now is that a good thing?

Whitney Houston > MJ's little sister

Whitney is more interesting not just because of her problems; she had a larger than life personality too.

Also, her interviews were only really interesting when she was either high on drugs, or off drugs, talking about her drug problem.

these four women are the epitome of females in pop

madonna leads the pack obviously.she is the Queen no doubt

followed bye in my opinion Janet, although Whitney sold more you see Janets influence in more of todays pop stars(male and female) than Whitney

Whitney is the "voice"more female singers try to imitate her and are influenced bye her voice more than any of these 4

Mariah is the total package the look, the voice, the sales ,and the chart dominance(most number 1's out of all these women)

they are all on the same level in my eyes though madonna and janet are more similar and whitney and mariah more similar

You give a very well-explained point, I agree. I am more of a Janet and Whitney person but i definitely love Mariah's voice and I dance to quite a few of Madonna's songs. They have all paved the way for the modern artists of today. I think Madonna and Janet were definitely button pushers as far as fashion, sexuality, and lyrical content. Mariah has sex appeal but she is definitely more focused on singing and doesn't dance or create a certain unique style like Janet and Madonna. I'd say the same for Whitney she didn't pushed boundaries or make her own material....she did a lot of cover songs but hell, my girl made it her own with that amazing voice! Janet, Madonna, and Mariah do write a lot of their own stuff though and have a large portion of control over their image and sound so that's what pushed them even further into innovative, icon, legend status. The artists of today have an appearance of control over their careers but with all the supposed copying and stagnation of their sound and their artistic expression proves that some puppet master is making the call at the end of the day.
