Clipped Wings is the only song this cd I will every bother listening 2 again. The rest is generic, bland, typical Rkelly paint by numbers.

It's more like he made a derivative formula of what a lesser version of Love Letter would sound like. lol

It sounds like Kelly trying 2 do a 1960's / 1970's style songs and trying 2 fool the listener on the real source of his material. Lame attempt. 1st u had Saddiq, then Ceelo, now u have Usher (twisted) and kelly doing the 1960's style joints. Bad trend if u ask me.

Compared to what's out there right now, it's a vast improvement for Kelly!

Not really. Considering you were always biased towards him. lol

I have to co-sign Graycap on this. I always felt this way about the so called, "throwback" joints too. I mean, I wouldn't mind it if it was just a one-off but to attempt it numerous times is just weak and lazy. Let move forward people/artists.

That's about as bad as Hollywood financing all these freakin remakes.... I'm like damn, can't anybody write a decent original script these days?!

Hmmm... i like some of the tracks. Kells still has a good voice smile

All Rounds On Me has this country western vibe and that track is a kickass song headbang

Clipped Wings is a pretty good slow jam :-}

The rest is hit & miss When A Man Lies is not to bad, Feeling single is a good jam... Believe In Me... ick lol

It's nothing amazing but it is a pretty good record. i'm glad Kells stuck with this & not that black panties bullshit lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Agree... and just because an artist tries a throwback joint doesnt necessarily mean its artistic or good.

"When A Man Lies" is a straight up blues song. I could definitely hear Mel Waiters singing this.

I think 'Love Letter' is one of his best albums!

This is getting so predictable..meaning..it ain't all that good.. eek

It's so trademark, yet remarkably passive..Not as aggressive as I hoped for..

BUT His music always takes me back to my hometown 'New Orleans' and for that, I appreciate it...lol

All Rounds on Me is epic. I love how he's using more instruments in his songs now.

Lady Sunday has a very nice groove to it. Like a cross between a Philly-sound and an Isley Bros song!

My thoughts exactly. nod The formula is getting stale and Kelly just needs to get inspired in another lane. Love Letter was one of his best and inspired albums in a while. I could play that from start to finish, but he needs to change some things. For starters, he needs to get some real musicians and get from behind that keyboard and drum machine... lol

He's actually using more instruments but agree someone needs to steal his drum machine or something. No lie, I cringed right when "Love Is" started when I heard that damn drum machine. lol It just doesn't fit but overall the album is really good. Way better than Love Letter.

I'm also happy Kells is using more live instruments. That shit he does with the 3 chords and that rain drop sounding effect got old lol so he's for sure moving in the right direction

Not nearly as good as Love Letter (my favorite album by him) but I do like When A Man Lies, Clipped Wings, All Rounds On Me, and Share My Love. It just sounds like he took the feel of Love Letter and turned it into a formula he could repeat over and over again to make a whole album

YES! I had the time to check it out again, and it just formulated! But 'Clipped Wings' is an amazing song! I really dig that! He has a couple of gems on the album, but when the formula is so consistent it makes you wonder 'WHY'. Love Letter is just amazing...I can play it from start to finish as well. It makes me smile, and brings me to the artists he dedicated this album too. He does need to leave that drum machine ALONE!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Agreed. It's not a bad album, by any means. Just on the formulaic side. I appreciate "Clipped Wings," "When A Man Lies," and "All Rounds On Me," but it gets so predictable for a while. It seems as if Kelly wants to imitate timeless soul men of the past, in his way of paying homage to them. It worked with Love Letter and Chocolate Factory, but now... confused

I really do think the only way he'll change is if he actually gets a band. I could see a whole lot of good coming from that.

It's a CONCEPT album but still very R. Kelly. What do you mean it worked on CF? That album is just R. Kelly, not a concept album like Love Letter or WMB.
