Agreed. It's not a bad album, by any means. Just on the formulaic side. I appreciate "Clipped Wings," "When A Man Lies," and "All Rounds On Me," but it gets so predictable for a while. It seems as if Kelly wants to imitate timeless soul men of the past, in his way of paying homage to them. It worked with Love Letter and Chocolate Factory, but now...
It's a CONCEPT album but still very R. Kelly. What do you mean it worked on CF? That album is just R. Kelly, not a concept album like Love Letter or WMB.
A concept about what? Those are simply retro albums. Chocolate Factory, Love Letter and Write Me Back are rooted in 60s and 70s soul music. [Edited 6/23/12 1:05am] Check me out and add me on:

Old school R&B/Soul and elements of Rock/Blues. He even said it himself that LL and WMB are concept albums. Chocolate Factory isn't rooted in 60's or 70's soul. That's just R. Kelly doing his own sound but there is one song on that album that is Marvin Gaye inspired. Have you listened to that album? |

I don't care what R. Kelly says. All three of those albums are rooted in 60s and 70s soul. With Chocolate Factory, Kelly wasn't going as overt with the sound as he is on Love Letter and Write Me Back, but it's in there. Listen to "Dream Girl," "Chocolate Factory," "Forever," "You Knock Me Out," "Forever More," "Ignition (Remix)," "Showdown," "I'll Never Leave," and "Heart of a Woman." They may not have that overt soul sound of LL or WMB, but the influences of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Teddy Pendergrass, and Ronald Isley are in those songs. Check me out and add me on:

"That shit he does with the 3 chords and that raindrop sounding effect got old"...
Yeah I agree with that too. People can say what they want about R but the dude knows how to write catchy songs that people later on will be singing. I see it all the time...even by people that still call him a pedophiled pervert.
But once the music kicks in, they forget about that. His new song (that I see the video for) reminds me of the 1974 era Teddy/Harold Melvin sound. |

You still don't get it. BTW, R. Kelly's word >>>> yours. After all, he's the singer, songwriter and producer of all the albums so I'm more inclined to take his word over yours. IJS. |

Kells should make a live record, I think that would be very interesting to listen to. People can say whatever they want about him, but he still does great songs and has made great songs for other artists. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix |
