You can hear in that solo, Van Halen's Allan Holdsworth

influence (with the technical modal runs) along with Eric

Clapton's influence (the occassional pentatonic lick).

This is my favorite Van Halen song.

The funny thing is that Edward has never talked about music in terms of modes and scales. He's not a technical player in the traditional sense. His technique is that hs has no idea what he's doing. He just naturally has that shit inside. He can't read. It's a feeling...
