Aretha Franklin wants to be shown a little more R-E-S-P-E-C-T when judges for “American Idol” or “The Voice” are considered.

“I would love to be a judge on one of those shows,” Franklin said last week from her tour bus en route to New York.

“I don’t understand why singers like myself, Gladys [Knight], Natalie [Cole] and Patti [LaBelle] can’t be judges. We never get a call. I don’t understand it. I watch those shows from time to time. Some of the talent is very good. Some of it is fun. And some of it is really wild,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Queen of Soul is headed to Chicago: She will perform in the 17th Annual N’DIGO “Legend de Soul” event with the Impressionions at 6 p.m. June 30 at the Arie Crown Theatre. For $250 gala tickets (which includes a VIP reception, scholarship awards ceremony, concert and after-party) call (312) 822-0202; tickets also can be purchased through ndigo.com.

Concert-only tickets, $45, $75 and $90, can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

Now this I would like to see lol I would much rather have a real singer judge other singers than these non-singers we see...Patti would be amazing too

it's ridiculous how these shows often choose "non-singers" to judge a person's singing nuts Makes no sense. Why are they so reluctant to hire someone like the Queen of Soul?

They're reluctant but if she's hired, expect to see a whole lotta "male" winners, singers and non-singers lol and a very limited numbers of female winners.

You sayin' that for a joke but you ain't too far off the mark. lol lol lol

I don't think these show want to deal with Sista Franklin's ego... drama. I'd be very surprise if ANYone hired the woman.

She has an ego true, but so do JLo, Aguilera and Spears. All of them have crazy rider demands and Spears has a huge entourage around her directing stuff. You think Aretha would be more difficult than any of them?

Aretha makes a good suggestion, I must say. Patti would be perfect for talent show and even Aretha wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I don't think they'd be any harder to work w/ the the divas already doing them! wink cool

Let's face it, the real reason they wouldn't pick Aretha is because of her age. neutral

This is why they would never ask her, Tina, Patti, Gladys, etc to be on the show.

Yet another star that wants to be on these rediculous shows and ruin their reputation.

I could see Miss Patti where she's so sweet and helpful; Chaka even, but Auntie Re can be brutally honest which could come off as being abrupt and cold to some. She's very intimidating. I mean, when Wendy Williams was in her house, she was practically kissin' Aretha's FEET up in there! LOL!

Mostly in the General Discussion section these days. Most of the threads in the Music: Non-Prince section have been looking like a thugged out version of the Mousekateers lately. lol

Most talent shows have that nice sweet female judge that everybody loves because they say they love everyone. Aretha wouldn't be that kind sweet woman lol

I would love to see Aretha as a judge but we all know its all about demographics. and ratings. Old school singers don't have a chance on these programs unless they're mentoring.

To see Aretha and Simon next to each other butt heads...that will be Must-See TV.lol

sad but true disbelief if people would give Aretha or Patti a chance though, these 2 have more than enough personality to be entertaining while also giving out good critiques/advice.

and yes I think the whole world would love to see Aretha tell Satan Cowell about real talent and real music lol

That's what I was saying on this thread earlier--tried and true legends like Patti or Aretha will never be considered because of their age; they might be invited on as guest judges but not as permanent. neutral
