Sylvers fans...our prayers have been answered!

The first batch of Sylvers reissues will be released on July 31st...excited

THE SYLVERS: SHOWCASE/NEW HORIZONS (SMCR-5063)
• Los Angeles-based family group The Sylvers -four of whom had performed as The Little Angels on shows with Johnny Mathis and Ray Charles - had already experienced a measure of chart success in the U.S. with three albums and four R&B singles for MGM/Pride Records between 1972-1974 when they signed with Capitol Records in 1975.• The nine-member team consisted of Olympia, Leon, Charmaine, James, Edmund, Ricky, Angie, Pat and Foster teamed up with former Motown producer/songwriter Freddie Perren who had worked with The Jackson Five among others to work on their label debut SHOWCASE.• The result was immediate success: the first single, the now-classic “Boogie Fever” reached No. 1 on the U.S. pop and R&B charts. The follow-up “Cotton Candy” became another Top 20 R&B hit and with four tracks written by Leon, SHOWCASE became a Top 60 pop and Top 30 R&B best-seller.• The 1976 follow-up LP, Something Special spawned the hit single, “Hot Line”; in 1977, the group (now seven in number with the departure of Olympia and Charmaine) wrote and produced their third Capitol set, NEW HORIZONS with Leon (who would go on to have major success as a producer working with The Whispers, Shalamar and Lakeside among others) writing or co-writing most of the tracks including the Top 20 R&B hit, “Any Way You Want Me.” • Both albums are making their worldwide CD debut with this release which includes liner notes by renowned US writer Rico Washington.Track list::SHOWCASE1. Cotton Candy 2. The Roulette Wheel Of Love 3. Boogie Fever 4. Storybook Girl 5. Ain't No Good In Good-Bye 6. Free Style 7. I Can Be For Real 8. Clap Your Hands To The Music 9. Keep On Keepin' On (Doin' What You Do)10. Ain't Nothin' But A Party NEW HORIZONS 11. New Horizons 12. Dressed To Kill 13. Lovin' Me Back 14. The Party Maker 15. Take A Hand 16. Any Way You Want Me 17. Another Day To Love 18. You Bring The Sunshine (Back Into My Life)19. Charisma 20. Star Free

I know that Showcase album was pretty popular back in the day, off of the strength of the "Boogie Fever" and "Cotton Candy" singles. But all of their albums have been sought over for some time now. I'm just surprised the good guys over at Soulmusic.com were able to distribute these albums and get licensing from Capitol. I wanna see what's gonna happen next...

Their first three albums have never been released on CD. That's where the problem is gonna lie for many Sylvers fans. I believe the master tapes for alot of MGM/Pride artists were destroyed in a massive fire and they aren't obtainable anymore. I don't know how engineers are gonna try to master those first three albums from just the rare vinyl pressings, but it would be nice to see how they could do something.

Damn! I'm certainly glad that any Sylvers stuff will get released, but I was really hoping those first three albums would be remastered, too. I guess we'll see......

I will pick this up but I won't hold out much hope for the mastering as soulmusic have been hit & miss on some of their reissues.
I was so disappointed at the job they did on the Alicia Myers album "Alicia Again" but hey fingers crossed . . . .

Though I too would love to see the first three albums remastered (example: just imagine how good this song from Sylvers II would sound remastered, epic intro and all!)...

...I'm really happy that Showcase and New Horizons are. excited Especially the latter because I've wanted to hear this jam in particular remastered FOR THE LONGEST:

Hate when they do that 2-for-1 mess. It works sometimes, but in this case not so much. Might swipe this up for New Horizons.

Adorecream

I remember old Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics always had ads for these guys in their pages and the new horizons cover had a poster they sold for $1. There was another album showing them in similar disco clothing (Spangled flares and afros) in a February 1979 album (I sold the comic about 10 years ago, have forgotten the album name, but it was something like Forever Yours and the girl with the Claire Huxtable Mushroom hairdo was pointing at you with the dude with big afro and moustache). Is anyone familiar with it. Never got into the music much, but their clothing was a hoot.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
