I always thought the uptempo's in general off their 2nd album were abit ahead of their time. The newjack from their first album was gone, but songs like "you got it" featuring Redman could of been released on a mid 90's album I feel.
Certainly feel abit less dated then what Teddy was doing with Blackstreet around that time and R Kelly was doing uptempo wise on his 2nd album.
They truly did blend hophop beats with rnb crooning on that one. Devante was one hell of a rnb producer. Up their with Teddy, R Kelly etc... in the 90's.

Yea I definitrly agree. There definitly underrated. In my opinion there the best behind Boys II Men as far as R&B boy bands of the 90s. Sad to see what happened to them, I wish they come out with an album. In highschool I went through this phase where all I listened to was Jodeci!

Whilst I know Jodeci had that bad boy image, I could never get into Boyz2men. I thought they showboated too much vocally. Also, whilst I didn't mind their 1st album, their 2nd album was weak in my opinion. Jodeci's stuff was as good as R Kelly's early stuff in my opinion. Alot more creative then Boyz2men aswell.
It should be noted though that Al b sure! helped produce all the ballads off their first album. Something alot of people seem to forget.

Yeah, thats one of my favs. Missy is all over that track. And yes, I do enjoy Mr Dalvin's goofy raps LOL. "Lets go through the motions" still sounds hot too. |

I love Al B that was that dude... he never gets his rightful credit. People forget he produced alot of hits as well. To be honest, I prefer Jodeci over Boys II Men personally but Boys II Men do have a strong body of work and they were very good vocalists, not to mention they were the most successful. I havent listened to all there albums to really have an opinion on their overall work.
Jodeci had that bad boy image but they could sanggggg and Devante was a bangin producer. In my opinion their music had alot more creative production. |

I think Jodeci was better than B2M. But those two were the best R&B groups out in the early 90s as New Edition and Guy was gone at that time (not sure how to class BBD though ...) PRINCE: Always and Forever

For the small amount of music they have, they have a strong body of work.... I LOVE Jodeci...

The first four songs on Diary of a Mad Band alone makes it their best:
My Heart Belongs to You
Cry for You
Feenin'
What About Us
This album is off the hook.

Yeah, it's a close call between their 2nd and debut, but despite the immaturity of uptempos like "play thang" and "alright", I still love them. Having said that, I probably hear "diary...." more these days.
"Ride and slide", despite the slightly nasty lyrics, is a hot track too, but "feenin'" is some Roger Troutman channelling at it's best LOL. |

Oh shit...!
I totally forgot about Ride and Slide - it's a perfect follow up to What About Us? |

I love the vocoder on "ride and slide". Its used sparinly so you look forward to it and it never becomes overkill.
Damn, maybe "diary..." is my fav album after all LOL. I may get hate but I prefer "Diary...." over R Kelly's "12 Play". As I said before. Mr Kelly stumbles on the more upbeat songs. "Back to the hood of things" is awful LOL. |

Gotta go with the debut. Side 2 is all over the place, but Side 1 is perfection. Five 5-star slow jams and "U&I" is the weakest (IMO)? That's impressive. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis |

I love those songs as well.. but
Stay, Come and Talk To Me, Forever My Lady, Im Still Waiting (which are also the first four songs on Forever My Lady) are far superior in my opinion especially Im Still Waiting. [Edited 6/19/12 18:10pm] |

I never liked "I'm still waiting" much. The remix was better though
"this is for the jeeps, strictly for the jeeps" LOL. |

Foreal? The production was kRAZY on Im still waiting, I LOVE Both and I also liked the remix to Come and Talk to me for a while I prefered it over the original but I enjoy both now.

Stay is their best song, followed closely by What About Us and Cry For You. |
