And the one by one song release............. wacky

One by one, FOR FREE? Come on now, man. You can't HONESTLY be complaining about something he was doing for FREE? Can you? lol

Oh that doesn't matter lol the songs where dead

If he is releasing 44 or 41 or whatever at least make 1 semi-interesting

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Well I can partially agree with that as I did find a few of them lacking as they were released one at a time. I really liked a portion of them, though. And a few more grew on me when I had the sets here in my hand as a physical release. But there are definitely a few clunkers in that process. I still hate "Song for a Son" and that play that one live sometimes. mad lol

Oceania is better than all of that, though. Like, pretty much every song. If you haven't checked it out you should give it a chance.

Heard a few oceania tracks like 2 of the 4 ihave heard. The other 2 where not bad just kind of eh.

Zeigiest i used to love & wondered why is everyone so down on this album? but it is frustrating to lsiten to cause of the guitar sound. It's just a nasty, non flatering sound confused

I like Zeitgeist, but I think Billy was still in flux regarding how he wanted to approach the re-formed Pumpkins. It was just him and Jimmy and, as you say, he was still trying to not sound like himself. If he'd stopped fighting that demon ten years ago it's likely he could have made a full comeback. For whatever reason, he couldn't let it go.

However, I went to nearly all of the Fillmore shows and the Zeitgeist songs sounded much better live. I still only really like a few of them, but as a whole they definitely sound better live.

Oceania is the Pumpkins as a band again, and whether he'll ever admit publicly that it makes a difference, it OBVIOUSLY does. He's admitted that a lot of the Teargarden songs were older. Some of them were very old. Ideas that he'd kicked around but never finished. Oceania, on the other hand, feels fresh. And, again - as you say, it sounds good.

I'm a giant Pumpkins nerd and I defended this guy through a lot of years when EVERYBODY I know hated him and his music. I'm just glad that he's released SOMETHING that people are at least giving a chance.

So I bought it. Not digging it at all. neutral The songs are dull, the production is boring, and even the cd artwork is super lame. I want my $10 back.

Why did Chamberlain leave again?

Sorry, but SP lost me after Adore. Even Adore, my favorite SP album, is only 2/3 good. Mellon Collie is like half good. Siamese is maybe 1/3 listenable.

Everything after Machina has been absolutely FILLER. His mojo is GONE.

Sucks that he spent the last of his creative juices chasing after TILA TEQUILA rofl! Aww buddy. What a fuckin' waste.

I tried to like them. Mellon Collie was in heavy rotation for me in middle school. I loved some of their songs so much I counted myself a fan. Then the band began to fall apart and none of the bandaids ever suited the wound, so to speak.

I just don't think Billy is a great writer when he isn't in the presence of people who understand his process. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone who comes to know his process ends up escaping.

Yeah, but Gish and all save the last few tracks on Pisces Iscariot are amongst the best to come out of that era. If only he'd have worked more with Courtney, for me Celebrity Skin is the best album he's been involved in.

He doesn't some bitter at all to me.

I think it's because I dissagree with the notion that Billy Corgan has been dismissed as a songwriter. As a matter of fact I think I could find just as many folks who think radiohead is a glorified lounge act and The Smashing Pumpkins as something really unique---it's all a matter of perspective. Corgan would dissagree with me on the radiohead part obvously from his 'sacred cow' comments, but I don't think he's coming from a place of bitterness or jealousy. What he's saying is that there are no sacred cows, and that's what he was referring to when he said, "I'll piss on radiohead."

I absolutely love the new Smashing Pumpkins CD by the way. Even with Iha and Darcey, it's just a smashing, tight, awesome ass record.

Feel free to comment! Your admission of liking Zeitgeist assures us that we're all human with varied and imperfect tastes here. wink

I really enjoyed the interview Howard Stern had with him

the other day. And you know what, I would be bitter too

if I was in one of the greatest rock bands of all time and it

fell apart because my douche bandmates were jealous of

all the attention I was receiving, for, I dunno, writing all of

the songs, writing all of the lyrics, producing the albums and

singing all of the songs and dealing with a drug addicted

drummer and two lovers in the band constantly fighting.

Besides, he admitted on Stern that he wanted to follow in the

steps of Jesus and use forgiveness as a tool to reconcile his

troubled past, so, yeah....

He may make the top 100... may, depending on who's compiling the list, but I doubt he'd make anyone's top 50, judging across sales, songs, technical ability, innovation, live performance, and consistency (like the AVRev listings do). He/They've just not had that level of impact in most people's minds.

Change it one more time..
